While I agree with that it's obvious the American prison system has failed. If keeping people caged like animals worked we'd have solved crime before Jesus was born. The Scandanavian countries more or less have it figured out by making the goal actual rehabilitation instead of pure punishment (for most of these people having to speak with a counsellor several times a week and learn a marketable skill other than crime would be a punishment itself). A system that is able to weed out those who are a threat to the public and keeps them away while simultaneously focusing on making sure that those who do have a chance to function in society are given the tools needed so they don't resort to a life of crime would be the best, and they have got the closest thing ever conceived. Its a puzzle to me why prisons and mental institutions are not more closely knit together as it's not like these criminals are of perfectly sound minds.

There are some basic rules about foot pursuits that seem to have been lost as I watch police videos these days. The rule of thumb from the past was in a two man car, the driver stays in the car and the passenger/contact officer pursuits the suspect on foot. In most cases the suspect gets gassed and runs out of energy and is taken down by the driver easily. We used this tactic a couple of dozen times a year and have always been successful, even with armed personnel. In this case the third backup unit would have been responsible for staying with his car and running him down (not literally) cutting down his area of movement. Additionally, it seems every cop today just yells, "shots fired" for anything, whether they just shot a dog or just had an accidental discharge. The radio call should be, " firefight with suspect running south on Main st" or whatever location. Just yelling shots fired is useless.

I did 8 years in prison from the age of 14 to 22, and it's not so bad, but it gets very lonely if you don't have any outside support. I can put myself in his shoes, and he probably dont have anyone that supports him, probably also homeless. But by the end of the day, I probably won't take my own life because that's the ultimate sin. That's why I stay away from old friends and drugs because I never wanted to go back in. I have an acquaintance who can consistently hit 8” target at 100 yards. Don’t know if he’d even try 50 yards running. Of course he’s smart enough to stop and make hits as suspect increases that 50 yard distance🙄. Some cops in Texas can shoot - others are more typical.
@oblivionpro69
@oblivionpro69 7 ай бұрын
@greenyoshi777 At that distance and more importantly at the rate of fire the cop was shooting, virtually nobody could get hits in that situation . That was straight up spray and pray panic fire from someone who had very little shooting experience.
@Bruce4lmighty
@Bruce4lmighty 11 ай бұрын
Why do cops always pump rounds out as they would at a range when they are in residential areas? How many missed shots found innocent targets? How is firing 50 rounds at one perp (all missed the target) the correct response in this situation? Yes he’s an armed perp that needs stopping however, not at any cost. If this is the SOP, it needs to be reviewed.

Yea, that was a lot rounds flying, not to mention using a pistol to do a rifles job, all them shots seemed 50+ yards. Maybe it’s just how body cams are. Still, all those rounds ended in something other than the suspect.
@lemax6865
@lemax6865 10 ай бұрын
Body cams do distort distances, it's because they're made to optimize field of view despite having a small lens. That messes with depth perception. Unfortunately it's an unavoidable limitation imposed by optical physics; better tech can give you better image resolution, fewer artifacts, more stability during movement and so on, but it can't alter the properties of light.

That’s not the moral of the story. PTSD & mental illness should not be criminalized activities. This war on drugs makes that possible. Stop the war on drugs!!

I saw one thing in this that I learned many years ago and that is, you can run, or you can shoot, but it's very hard to run and shoot at the same time. In this footage, I saw at least a couple of times where one of the cops could have taken him out, if he had just stopped running for a couple of seconds and took careful aim, while standing still, and shot.

Once you take that first conviction, honestly, most employers won't consider you. Doesn't matter what you did, or why. They just don't want to hear it. In our society, regular people compete for jobs. Once you have a disabling factor (like a conviction, or a mental health situation), you are no longer going to be able to compete with regular people. You are literally out of the running for most normal jobs. What's left isn't usually that attractive.
