Stayed in Burgos for awhile back in 2015, I really liked the city. Especially the Churches as they were so beautiful. Ate in many Restaurants. Very Nice. Would like to go back and visit as I have a friend who lives there and his wife runs a preschool. We would work in City in North 50km or so. Nice there also. I always wanted to retire in Spain. But ended up working in China and now live in Dongguan, China. I will return one day when the COVID Travel restrictions lift to my friends house in Burgos.

What I missed most while on my visits to Spain and Europe is a plain "working man's" breakfast early during the morning. Eggs, bacon and hash brown with toast. I prefer the Spanish life style; the "paseos" late at night, sidewalk table, etc.,

Having been there it is noteworthy to state that the bike system separated from the autos is adjacent to pedestrian zones. Unlike the USA, pedestrian priority is the rule rather than the exception. It was disconcerting at times to arrive at a pedestrian crossing and actually have cars stop and wait for you to cross. Another observation is that cities especially old UNESCO medival cities are best set up for walking not biking...no place to store them along the old narrow side streets.

Are there restrictions on cycling or is it simply unpopular? (I did notice that the few cyclists who appear seem well-behaved).

I speak German and the name Burgos sounds familiar, i know (Bürg) literally means Castle, Burgos was also conquered by the Swevian and later the Visigothic tribes both were of Germanics origins.

The word burgo is a word of clear Germanic origin, incorporated into Latin in times of the Roman Empire, so in the Romance languages (those derived from Latin, such as Spanish or French) there is not only the original word burgo (Spanish), burg (Italian) or bourg (French), but a multitude of derived words. It originally has the meaning that you say, of a small fortress, but it became synonymous with a city (at least in Spanish). So a "burgués" is, originally, a resident in the city, in the "burgo". The city of Burgos has little to do with Suebians or Visigoths. It was founded by the Count of Castile Diego Porcelos in 884 on the land that the northern Christians were gaining (or recovering) from the Muslims.

Most cyclists everywhere are well behaved- some cyclists are understandably more aggressive when put up against tons of metal moving faster than them driven by people who appear not to care about injuring them.
