The history of the Gold Rush is both inspiring and cautionary. It fueled incredible economic growth and shaped the American West, but it also brought hardship and loss to many. The story of the A J Goddard, the buried ships under San Francisco, and the Winfield Scott reminds us of the risks people took in pursuit of wealth. These tales are powerful reminders of how far people will go for the promise of fortune.

If you want to see an old mining site that has destroyed the landscape like they describe, go to Weaverville, California and drive west on CA-299 towards Junction City. Just past the top of the hill outside town an entire canyon encompassing thousands of acres has only short grass growing or nothing at all because the hillside was washed down to the bare rock by hydraulic mining. It was called the La Grange Mine--during its operation they processed over 100,000,000 cubic yards of material and took over 200,000 ozt of gold.

Pretty crazy they got that boat back up the river

I read that those who supplied the miner's wants and needs, were the ones who primarily cashed in on the various gold rushes.

I read the same thing Juan, it was an old book,the history of mining the American west, they called these provisions or mining supply stores
@juancana4574 ай бұрын
@@jt-it5ot Thanks for that. Whatever the next frenzied rush for riches is, you can rest assured that the provisioners, not the laborers, will be the very few 'cashing' in.

It's interesting, but I felt that the background music was a bit too loud and tense for this kind of a historical documentary. It's not a Hollywood action movie.

I crave 90s documentaries with a thirst for knowledge. These modern documentaries are nothing more than fake drama and bad acting. Here's a few tips: use a deep slow voice, turn down the music soundtrack, and only interview people on site or in contact with those on site. Nobody wants to hear someone's opinion that read a book about the topic 3,500 miles away... for a start

Had you paid _any_ attention to the content you'd know the first 19.5 minutes discussed the Alaska gold rush. The first significant 'gold rushes' of the United States were in North Carolina and in Georgia which resulted in two of the first three branch mints; Charlotte, N.C (1837), and Dahlonega, Georgia (1838).
