We spent a few days in Dubai just before the pandemic. Our favorite experience was the VIP tour at Burj Khalifa. The tour comes with a local guide, an opulent buffet on the top floor via our private elevator. Access to a balcony with spectacular views from the very top. Worth every penny. I love Dubai ☀️🌴🐪

All the stupid souvenirs we bought are collecting dust in the basement somewhere while our experience is something we talk about all the time.

Yes. Just back. The VIP was very much worth it. There are 3 tiers. The basic gets you to the 125th floor. Very crowded and long waits to get back down. The VIP SKY gets you to the floors at 148. Still crowded with an outside balcony with a very high glass wall. The full VIP ticket gets you to the 154th floor with included drinks and snacks and excellent service with no crowd and balconies with lower walls. This ticket also skips the lines both going up and down. If you can afford to go at all go big and do this one. It was about $500 for two of us.

I met an engineer from Australia who worked on the construction. He said that they used gps in locating key elements when building up really high. He said that the building would sway in a figure 8 pattern and then reverse direction but with the same locus of the sway. And then at some critical height, the gps could no longer lock on because of the sway. Ive heard that the twin towers used to sway side to side, unlike the figure 8 of th BK. And that the twin towers top 2 floors were allmost unleasable because occupiers became seasick

The first time I set foot in Dubai was 1990 and there was nothing! A two lane highway ran the coast. I have been back 20 times in the last 30 years and it has grown into an amazing city. I always enjoy my time there. A must see is the Burj and adjoining Mall and the Gold Souk!! Book Burj tour online and save a lot of money. Always use State run Taxi's that are super cheap. I highly suggest the open top, red bus tours, its the best way to see all of the city.
