Burlington Northern in Whitefish, MT July 1992

Cascade green Burlington Northern action in Whitefish, Montana, plus a day trip to Essex and back. Rail traffic was bustling here in July 1992 with many mainline trains powered by SD40-2s, leased LMX B39-8s, GP50s, plus some yard switching action with a SW1500 as well as an ex-Frisco GP38-2. Also special appearances are made by a few yellow bonnet Santa Fe locomotives (including an SF30C), fuel tenders, a patriotic Burlington Northern caboose and of course the Great Northern NW3 switcher on display in Whitefish.

I lived less than three blocks from this yard from birth to marriage. I’m beyond words at how moved I am by these sights and sounds. I walked over this viaduct countless times, coming and going from school and youth activities. I’ll never have a sleepless night again, with this playing in my ears. I am completely undone. my first interaction with the Burlington Northern was in TRS2006 (Trainz) with the Marias Pass demo route that was offered. i always liked their livery and how well it fitted with the locomotives. and this video does justice to it, at a location also featured in MSTS. one day i hope to see one ex-BN loco with my own eyes. greetings from Romania

Yeah I can't stand the BNSF paintscheme. I call it the "Cheezies and Black Olives Paintscheme". Would have been better if they chose Santa Fe Red instead of that awful orange. Hopefully they change it since that paintscheme (Black/Orange) has been around for almost 20 years. Time for a new paintscheme.

1:57 BN 7177 and BN 8002! BN 7177 went on NS in 2013 as NS 3543. Then sold in 2020. And BN 8002 was the only SD40-2 in the tiger stripe scheme. 27:22 BN 7829 was wrecked in 2001.

Sadly, the locomotive engineer, Mr. Yang, lost his life at the accident scene due to excessive bleeding. Before his passing, Mr. Yang had been preparing for duty at Suncheon Station.

I have the video of the BN funnel which was filmed 3 weeks before the BN/ATSF merger. (among others) and the book by Rob Leachmann 'Northwest passage'. I've been modelling the BN since getting a tyco BN trainset for my 11th birthday in 1980. I now have 40 locomotives in CB&Q red/grey, GN big sky blue and orange/green, Northern pacific and SP&S. A few ATSF as well. I'm still wanting a pair of alco C636's but by the time anything gets to me in New Zealand the price is more than I can afford. Just one new boxcar will set me back $100 nzd. Ouch! Prices like these will prevent a lot of younger kids getting into the worlds greatest hobby.
