Enjoyed the video. While not a fan of running in circles layouts, I really liked how much thought you put in every industry. It´s cool to have a good story for everything. 👍

Hey thanks. I didn’t want a layout with trains looping around either but this was built when I still lived with my parents and moved to my current house. Eventually I’ll build a newer and much larger layout but for now this is still perfect

The folks in that house with the pool have a great view of the lumber yard from the back, and a great view towards the rail yard and all that activity!

Suggestion for next level details at Magic Pan: swap silos with short square building, then silos can be filled at siding from ACF hoppers (flour & granulated sugar) via fill lines running up sides into tops. Also add dust collection at top of at least one silo. Great layout, and craftsmanship!

Interesting. FWIW column, Starting in the 90’s bakeries started shipping out loaf bread and other bakery products frozen. You could add a freezer to the bakery.

I did plan to but unfortunately my longer refrigerated box cars couldn’t make the tight curve. The layout was built for my old house where space was tight.

I just noticed that this video is two years old. If you don't mind my asking. When was this layout started ? Was Luke Towan an inspiration to you. Your level of sophistication mirrors a lot of how he does things. I now understand why I find your handiwork so inspirational. Have you done any weathering yet ? I see all sorts of dioramas in your cool layout. The people in an above ground pool is awesome !
@BurlingtonNorthernModeler2 жыл бұрын
Hi, appreciate the comment. This layout was started in 2013. I’m unsure who that is but I’ll have to search his videos. I’ve done very little weathering but I had a friend weather several pieces of equipment for me. I plan to start doing more layout videos as it seems that’s what people enjoy to see the most out of my content

Enjoyed the video and watched as I am a BN/BNSF fan. However, the layout was a bit too busy for me. I prefer end to end layouts with plenty of space between industries. None the less, you have a very presentable layout with lots to occupy you.

Lookin' GOOD! Is the crew in the switcher idling there to watch the bikini clad car washing girls? They must have been hired to wash the SW1, it's pretty clean. Good reason why it's clean. LOL

Various methods from smooth-it or floor tile. Painted with acrylic paint and thing automotive pine stripping tape for the lines

Is the diamond on the lumber lead a switch or just a crossing? Just curious how cars would move from that lead to the main line.

Double slip switch. Usually only ever one or two cars get taken down there at a time

Another question do you have to have a location where each freight car will end up? Or do they just go back to the yard and start over? I don't understand operations all the way
@BurlingtonNorthernModeler2 жыл бұрын
The cars are taken back to the yard. Built into a train depending on their destination. The train is set off to the mainline. Runs the loop and then is taken off the tracks. Reverse order for inbound cars
@WilliamHBaird-eq2hp2 жыл бұрын
You're on the right track for an exiting operating session. An Interesting industry set up indeed. One minor criticism tho (if I may)... some of the cars you use are not prototypically correct for that industry. Two examples: the ECC Tank car is for Kaolin (a liquid clay whitener for porcelain or paper products). The Staley tank car is for Chemicals, not fuel oil . But this is all irrelevant if you are having fun!
@BurlingtonNorthernModeler2 жыл бұрын
The clay car is a substitute until I can find correct chemical I am cars which seem to be harder to find for my era. I don’t have a fuel oil customer, are you referring to the molasses transfer facility with the short tank cars? Those have been known in the past when they were around to carry non chemical liquid commodities at times.
@WilliamHBaird-eq2hp2 жыл бұрын
@@BurlingtonNorthernModeler Gotcha.. I was referring to the ECC white Kaolin tank car used for whitening paper and ceramics. Looks like a fun layout to operate
Question how do you know how many tracks each industry needs and where to put them?
@BurlingtonNorthernModeler2 жыл бұрын
Just depends on the need of the customer
