When I was 32yrs old my first husband was a drinker, I was always worried about him getting another DWI, cause the only one who sufferef was me cause he always managed to find the $$ to drink with even though we didn't have any $$ for our bills. So this one day he was going to go drinking with his buddies and I told him to not drive home that night to stay there. Well he didn't and that night around 10 - 11pm he pulled out in front of a semi. I still to this day can remember when the police came to the door and told me what happened. The mayor of the town that he was leaving asked if I minded if they took his car and parked it in front of the highschool to show the kids what a wreck involving alcohol looks like. I said yes, and it was there for a couple weeks. I hope these short shows help to prevent these terrible accidents.

1968,my senior year in High School my dad a cop back then took me and 2 of my close buds out on a Saturday night . Not to eat but to see the carnage resulting from booze related car accidents. We lived on the New Jersey (drinking age 21) and New York(18) border at the time. Major roads and highways crossings .9 W and 303 304, .It was scared straight time for us.He had his scanner and radio, and followed the calls. Also got into the E.R. at Nyack Hospital. Since 1968, never ever have I driven drunk. I have only gotten parking and expired registration tickets. Every weekend some one died.

Also I do not think the mock accidents reach many of the youth. Too many kids watching were smiling and joking around. My dad did the right thing with us.Actual news and police videos followed by testimony from people who lost a loved one, coos who were there, people arrested, did time,honest discussion would be much more effective.Not everybody has the chance to see the hell in real time as we did.

I don't remember a mock crash like this during my time in high school... but during my junior year in high school, someone who was involved in a DUI accident (and killed someone, forcing the driver who killed the innocent motorist to serve time in prison) came to our health class and told us about how dangerous it is to drive impaired. Long story short: they drove the wrong way on the Blue Route and collided head on into a motorist about 2-4 miles south of the Mid County Toll Plaza. That motorist turned out to be a grandmother heading down to see family members in Delaware County, and while the defendant was in the hospital, she learned that the grandmother died. She pled guilty to charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol and recklessly endangering others: punishable with 5-10 years in prison.

They did every 15 minutes at our school but I was only a freshman so I obviously wasn't a candidate to be in the program but it was still surreal. I knew most if not all the seniors and juniors that were victims. They were good people and it was sad to see them "dead"
