My Dad was born in Maymyo in 1930, the family left when the Japanese came in WW2 and embarked on 'the trek' to India. My Dad had very fond memories of the town, they lived in Friar Road.

My wife and I were there just last week. We are already missing all the places we visited including the Botanical Garden and the Governor's mansion. Myanmar is an amazingly charming country and we will visit it again soon.

I stayed at Candacraig which was a Government Guest house , in 1979. Evening meal was roast beef and yorkshire pudding followed by strawberries and cream! Took one of the 'stage coaches' to the Botanic Gardens. A bit rickety I remember. You could only stay in Burma for one week and places to stay were tightly controlled by the military government. I wonder how things are now, seven years after this video. Good work.

Magnificent documentary about magical Myanmar, my home country. Although I live in the USA now, my Myanmar is always in my heart. For your information, I lived in Maymyo/Pyin Oo Lwin for a couple of years during my pre-teen years and attended middle school there. We lived in one of the old colonial houses seen in this video (I believe I even saw our old place). I have traveled all over the world but yes, the botanical gardens there are comparable to, or even superior to any seen here in the US or Europe. The Singapore Botanical Gardens is a gem too. Thank you for posting this and for your very informative narration.

Thanks Nida, when I visit my intention has always been to visit friends. Corruption is on a scale I have never seen before, but in recent times there is evidence that things may change. The people deserve it. Paul

A nice and popular place to visit and make picnic in around Myanmar. You can feel like an ancient feeling like 90s. 03:39 yes you're right Cinderella :) .

Your commentary is just as amazing as the beautiful videography. Very cinematic and colorful as well. I was in Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lyin, Bagan and Inle on March 2017, but I wonder how I could have missed the beautiful flower clock tower and the so many bangalows turned hotels in Yangon. I remember the People’s Park is a wonderful place with huge trees. Will check out your other videos soon.
