Some say his fire is slowly dying. Of course it doesn't burn as intense as earlier times, but there are not many that still pull off a show like this at 78. Massive respect to the spear. I feel so blessed I could see him again in my hometown!

The new horns are amazing, legit. I don't know about the new band. Drummer is on point. BigUp. Bass is relentlessly owning. Respect! Guitar chanks slip a bit late sometimes, a bit overcool, like he's the Musical Director, and distracted because of that. Right-handed bubble thing on keys just doesn't have the strict rhythm that pushed Burning Band to dominate, and seems more like a modern novelty technique that key-bored dudes have to show off nowadays. And, that technique leans toward a more swung style of bubble, changing the feel on some old songs quite a bit, making them bouncy-bouncy instead of the rub between a swung/triplet feel hi-hat against a straight bubble. That said, his clavinet work was superb. Lead/pick guitar was entertaining. The Burning sound could expand, compress, and turn over on itself to make the hypnotic "Spear" sound constantly change. It's only two chords for a lot of the compositions...so, it's all about the rhythmic feel. Mr. Rodney did an excellent work in this presentation, and assimilated to this "newer" sounding band faithfully. Yes, I was spoiled on Burning Spear from the 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s...Love it Still!
