I know many people to whom Burning Spear is the greatest rasta artist. Spear's music is like the stepping of the feet, beating of the heart, breathing of the lungs and flowing of the blood throughout your body. There is no other music that sticks to your brain cells like his music. It inspires you continually. The music is total upliftment of the soul.

So glad to see an depth interview of Burning Spear with revealing insight into the creative process from a true legendary artist of reggae music who I have listened to for nearly 50 years. Positiveness throughout the interview from Mr Rodney who survived the music business without animosity. I hope The People can get to see more shows when the time is deemed to be right. On the theme of perfect matching melody with lyrics... Come Come (1993) "Your mind and your thought should be clean Come, mek we say what we have to say Come along, come, mek we do what we got to do"

The first reggae album that 'hit' for me was "Garvey's Ghost", the dub version of "Marcus Garvey". It has meant so much to me over the years - the way the keys fade in and out and the dub treatment of the horns. Amazing record. It is astounding to me that Spear got so little financially from a major label like Island (Mango). I always knew that the artists got so little from their Studio One work, but Island with its worldwide distribution? Wow. Just wow. The interview is spot on about the sound of 'Hail H.I.M." Such a great record. "African Postman" I used to listen to in my truck when I worked for USPS, delivering mail. I have had the privilege of seeing Burning Spear a number of times, the most memorable being early '90s at a small club right on the beach in Misquamicut, Rhode Island. This was the time of "Make We Tweet" and I fell in love with that record, especially the song "Elephants". Thanks for this interview. I hope Spear realizes how important his music is to us that know him and his records. The great artists mean more than they probably even realize.

The exploitation of Afrikans whether it is in the world of music or otherwise stills continues. That is why we Afrikaans throughout the world have to come together and establish our own businesses in music, banking or otherwise. If we work together prioritize we do have the financial capacity to grow and develop. We can take as an example, Mr. Marcus Mosiah Garvey 17 August 1887 Saint Ann's Bay Jamaica. Mr. Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr, the founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and Afrikan Communities League (UNIA-ACL, commonly known as UNIA), through which he declared himself Provisional President of Afrika. Ideologically, black nationalism, Activism, and Pan-Africanism, his idealism is known as Garveyism. So in memory and in honor of our spiritual and courageous ancestors who fought for our freedom without fear against oppression, whereas we Afrikans now must accept and continue with responsibility the moral duty of the struggle they waged as their legacy, so that nothing will prevent Afrikans from regaining their full sovereignty and restoring their dignity! And so Mr. Marcus Mosiah Garvey ideology continues encouraging Afrikan centered education, Afrikan history and awareness uplifting self esteem among Afrikans globally. Mr. Marcus Mosiah Garvey in his time has touched the grounds on the little island of St. Eustatius where I was born, where his legacy continues to inspire young people. The island is just 12 miles beyond the island of St. Kitts where my mother was born.

Oh man, this interview was revealing for me as an author of books that are more inclined on Pan Africanism, inventions and innovation. I have always wondered if what I came to write about was my own doing and today, the Burning Spear, opened my eyes and confirmed that it is a calling, a gift not to hoard but spread for everyone to gain from. Yes, albums could be produced when the time is right just as books, written or birthed years ago could be produced when their message would make sense for and to a generation. Garvey's words are today like a Bible to any Pan Africanist. Africa, chained from the feet to the neck, mouth, eyes and thinking is finally putting into action Garvey's and Nkrumah's philosophy. So, Africans, everywhere, Motherkand, Carribean and uttermost Diaspora terrains, stand up and be Man in the Hills and proclaim the total and ultimate freedom - mindset!
