Best of luck to the patient. I hope they have a fast and complete recovery. They're lucky to have such a stellar physician.

Thanks Dr. Information like this is what I need, not trying to self medicate but to be self aware about the changes in my body. I love this channel because of the information I can get.

The 1st patient I had with my preceptor when I was training to be ICU nurse was a septic pt from untreated UTI. Needless to say pt coded 3 times and passed away. Don't ignore UTI

My mother (63yr) has E. Coli, doctor given her Levofloxacin based on sensitivity but she doesn't have any improvement in symptoms. It's so frustrating for her. Excessive urination with burning and pain in her abdomen.

@Medcram Dr. Shehault (sp?), PLEASE do a video on the use of vaginal estrogen and DHEA for genitourinary syndrome of menopause. There are some very vocal, well-known urologists that preach how the use of vaginal estrogen can prevent the very scenario you are treating here, particularly in menopausal and post-menopausal women. DC’s Dr. Rachel Rubin talks all the time about how women in nursing homes-who suffer from untreated GSM-die needlessly due to UTIs that lead to septis. As much as you follow research data, I’d love to hear your take on this topic!

Years ago I had a bladder infection, and no insurance, I had the infection so long that I just got used to the pain and then one night I got chills, so I got in a bathtub full of hot water, stayed there until the water was cold, then went to bed and tried to stay warm until the water heated back up, I did that through the night. Next morning I got up and went to work, but felt so bad I let my boss know that I probably should go back home. She paid me and threw in extra cash for the doctor. So I went to the doctor, and by that time I really wasn’t thinking clearly, the nurse came in to take vitals, I thought she was the doctor, she asked for a urine sample, then came back in the room and I asked her what was wrong, and since she wasn’t the doctor she just said that there was something going on, then said the doctor would be in soon. When the doctor came in she said I had a really bad bladder infection and she was going to give me a shot of antibiotics and if I wasn’t better in the morning I needed to go to the ER. I told her that wasn’t going to happen since I didn’t have insurance. She said ok, if you aren’t better and you don’t go, then you won’t need to. Meaning I would be dead. Luckily I was better the next day. The only good thing about this was that every Saturday for six weeks I went and bought smaller jeans. I lost 25 pounds in six weeks. That and I was still alive.,

Wow this came at a good time. My lady has been getting UTIs pretty much every month to every other month for a few years now. I'm going to use your medcram crash course to help me see if theirs anything I can do to help! The doctors don't seem to interested in getting to the bottom of it so hopefully I can find something helpful! Thanks for the information doc!

I'm not a doctor, this is only personal experience. So take this with a grain of salt. Check if her stress is worse or persistent. If she holds her bladder too much, doesn't drink enough water or both. Trying new underwear doesn't hurt if you can afford it. I personally heal faster when I wear cotton underwear and change them before bed. Wet wipes like baby wipes might help her with discomfort. Pee immediately after "bedtime wrestling". After exercise I immediately shower and soap/rinse extra well which seems to help prevent them. I wish ya luck with lady.

Is it normal to feel some burning when you urinate for 3-4 days after your period has ended and before it starts as well ?
@Medcram
@Medcram Жыл бұрын
Not generally. It might be a sign of endometriosis from what I read. But that is usually during menstruation not after it. Might not be a bad idea to get a urinalysis or have it checked out during that time.

4+ bacteria but no nitrites? Is that common?
@Medcram
@Medcram Жыл бұрын
Nitrates will only be positive if the bacteria is from the group: Enterobacteriaceae. Things like E. coli etc. This one was klebsiella pneumoniae which is in that group so yeah it is odd.

What if you have a burning sensation but multiple urinalysis turned up negative and std and sti also turned up negative?
@Medcram
@Medcram Жыл бұрын
It could be something else. There are bacteria that won’t show up on a Gram stain might need to see a urologist to do a scope and look.

Yeah don't wait. Not fun peeing blood into a urine sample cup. It became unbearably painful in 48 hours to begin with. They were concerned I had a kidney infection. Thankfully, but also unfortunately for my guts, I just needed strong anti-biotics.
