Burnout (1): Interstate, Saloon GT

I remember this original Burnout game was quietly released with almost no fanfare. I love racing games so I got it near it's release date and could not believe how fun it was! It is hard to go back to now because you can't hit ANYTHING. The newer Burnout games have spoiled us. This game is a classic.

nostalgic ^-^ i love the burnout serie since i played this first part...but the best thing ever happend to burnout is the ability to takedown :D ...and to be able to use the boost whenever u want to ^^

Aww, I loved Burnout 1, for me it was the best of all of them, of course the newer ones have better crashes, graphics, gameplay, but the original was the first one. It was the one that brought all these insane crashes. Nothing can beat the first.

I loved burnout 2 as well. The early games felt more unforgiving; it was arcadey but in a twitch sense; the precision needed to not crash was amazing. I remember renting when it came out, it was HARD. Now you can run into anything and as long as it isn't head-on, you'll survive.

Now its about 12 years old. Crazy how time flies, I remember making this video using a CRT television and using my Sony handycam as the capture device. Made a bridge from my VCR A/V to my computer's firewire through the camera

i love burnout 1 only cause you can replay your crashes and save them AND because you could race in the bus and towtruck

i prefered Burnout 1 and 2 as well. The reason is Burnout 1 had far more traffic on the roads, and it was a challenge to get your boost up. Also Burnout 1 and 2 had more varied level designs. and the way the music stops playing or fades out when you boost it cool too. Final reponse, is the Bus and Tow Truck were fun to play as, and the replay mode in the first was awesome, looked real. if they could put those features back to Burnout, it would be great ^ ^

well i like it because it reminds me of the good old days, also you get an atmosphere in burnout 1 that you dont get in modern games because no effort goes into them anymore, its like a conveyor belt of games, 5 years ago it wasnt like that, maby 20 games or so relesed a year not thousands like now where people are just trying to get money

That "Hillside" track is fun, but the checkpoints are hard to make, and the roads are not straight. :)

Burnout Paradise is the most fun. Especially if you play online, the freeburn challenges are so much fun. And then it has the Ghosbusters car, the I am Legend car, KITT and General Lee... And all the cop cars... And Stunt run!

yeah me too, the Saloon GT was really cool, and i had it too for Gamecube, i was soooo excited about this really good game, i just love it :D

what i like is the sounds are rather realistic, the cars make a wooshing noise, like real cars. in the new ones, the games seem to be missing that noise, which makes u feel (at least me) like ur going slower

its more of a classic, i think it was one of the first games where they could actually figure out how to make the cars crumble. id have to say burnout 2 is my favorite because its got a good gameplay with better crashes, and its not too exagerrated. and theres not slow motion every time u hit something

This certainly looks fun, and you are pretty damn at this game! You hardly ever crashed. But I prefer the newer Burnouts over this. This is just a different kind of good I suppose.

i hate those crashes where u think, if u swerve, ull either hit another car u cant see, or lose control, and then u end up hitting it anyways

This car is my favorite car from this game. They forgot to include this car in Burnout Legends. I'd like to see it come back in Burnout Paradise.

@NTComputer86 That's not a glitch. "Wrong Way Charlie" as I refer to it is actually a trick used to make you crash into him and lose the race. If you pay attention to every race in Burnout and Burnout 2 *I don't remember if any others have this*, the last lap always have extra cars in weird spots, the traffic pattern is changed, stoplights that were green the last 3 laps are now red, etc. It's not a bug. It's something they threw in there to screw with you.

nintendo gamecube, which was released in 2001, but now you miht want to consider a wii, which is backward compatible with gamecube games. and the game is Burnout. you can get gamecubes used at Gamestop for about $50 and the new wii for $250. the wii also sells at most electronics stores

yeah, ive gotten really far, maybe more i have no clue, the trick is to stay between the carpool lane and the one next to it. (carpool lane is the concrete one), i think i have gotten 3 boosts on that track backwards on the really crowded area

They say Nakamura Ikusa GT use the Saloon GT model. Look at Ikusa's plate, it says AS-B1-SL.

i agree, as well as burnout revenge for the most part, but if u have played burnout paradise, especially on xbox live, that is an incredible game, theres no menus for the events, and online its jsut unexplanably incredible how it works

I just played that track in reverse, i got like 3 or 4 thousand meters of oncoming. don't take your finger off of the boost button when using it, and get it half full after!

you could nudge them into oncoming or other traffic, but it didnt register them as takedowns back then. wouldnt affect your score either

hi, nice vid in places, shame about some of the wall hitting (grinding). was that your best time or were you just messing around? my interstate recs are 2.03.400 for fastest lap and 6.18.733 for fastest time.

This was the first game on Xbox that I loved. I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the low difficulty of Burnout 2, and the ridiculous physics of Burnout 3. I played the demo for 4 and decided not to even get it. I hate how OXM (official xbox magazine) seemed to feel the later games just got better because of crash mode...

yeah, i have estimated that i make an average of one video per week since i joined march 2007. actually february, but all i posted was my commercial. my video Jesus is coming was the first hit video i had to post. now i dont have a pocket size camera since i mounted it on the front of that green vehicle i was doing burnouts on, dust got in it and the lens is all locked up, but i have these crappy hps that have battery lives of 15 minutes, and one flickers (NT86 Mod 1 vids).

yeah this is gamecube tho, ive played burnout 2 on xbox tho, but i didnt own it for it, but i did own a copy for PS2, which i traded for the gamecube version once my PS2 mysteriously jammed after removing the burnout 2 disc

Overall this game was awesome. It really felt like a classic. However I was really dissapointed with checkpoint countdown system. So I decided to beat the game to unlock and try out free mode. Turns out free mode just takes out the traffic and not the timer. That makes it even worse.

i dont think they will make it for nintendo anymore because of the intense graphics, u should definetely try the new one that came out, burnout paradise, theyve really made it alot better, if you like the origional burnout and burnout 2, i think you will like this version, they include all the music from burnout 1 and 2, and they brought back alot of the old cars, and changed the gameplay alot, loads faster, ... its just a really great game, the city is bigger than carbon or midnight club 3's.

its not bad. its better than 3 and revenge, but 1 and 2 were probly the best 2. burnout paradise is great though, because the game has such a huge map, and there are so many races, i havent covered the entire map yet just cruising around, and theres expansion packs for more races and challenges. its very fast paced, like the other burnouts, so theres a lot of traffic dodging involved and walls to steer clear of.

Back then, I thought it was very realistic, because it's normal that some people try to overtake other vehicles. That van was simply trying to overtake that truck. At least that was what I thought back then, and I thought it was awesome :D

T_T GRR i want to play it now!!! But i cant because my disc is broken because my cd-holder has the outside of a football and my annoying 7 year old(he was 5 then) cousin kicked it. Broke my Burnout CDs(1 and 2) and damaged my Lotus Challenge(the only thing that works are the menus.)

im a legendary in live on burnout paradise my name is deathracer63 and i have EVERY car in the game the F1 is my fav for the races and road rage is takedown 4x4 and my favorite stunt car is proabaly ikusa or the ummmm... idk but it looks kinda like the SUPER high tech car idk wut that 1 called but its like a civic? if u know wut im talkign bout then yah kk bye :)
