aw dude! I used to be able to do this with the custom compact. I had muscle memory and even remember the traffic patterns. Good times. :)
@Astfgl7 жыл бұрын
I like that the traffic in this game isn't entirely unpredictable. There is a degree of randomness to it, but it also has repeating patterns that you can learn and anticipate. Later Burnout games were more unpredictable which added to the spectacle, but also made them less interesting from a pure racing standpoint.

Thanks. I used to play this track endlessly in the demo, which is why I can now do a non-stop chain with two fingers up my nose. This is about as many chains as you can get in a normal race. You can do one more burnout if you're a bit slower overall. For more chains, you'd have to do a Time Trial race. Also, yes, the music in this game rocks. Much better than the licensed crap from later Burnout games.

Nice man! I remember the first time I did this. Took me so long to figure out the patterns and perfect angles for the best score. GG

I got to this point by playing the Burnout 2 demo over and over before I got the full game. IIRC the demo was just one lap of the Big Surf Shores track, but it was so amazing that I just couldn't stop playing it, until the whole thing was etched into my brain.
@jdm7577 жыл бұрын
Astfgl nice. I wanted to do this for every track. Airport Terminal 3 and Big Surf are the only ones I was able to. Crystal Summit Peak was the most difficult to me.
@Astfgl7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Crystal Summit Peak is by far the trickiest track, but also really fun when you nail a perfect lap. I think I managed to string 3 perfect laps in a row on that track, but never a full 5-lap race. I did go above and beyond on Big Surf Shores in Time Trial mode, with my current record being a 352x boost chain: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4uboZt8eLVnqKs

I was good back then, but you are better.. thanks for this epic upload and reminder of a time when games used to be fun.

Thanks! I'm seriously considering getting back into this game and attempting an unbroken 1000x chain in Time Trial mode again. I just need to get my PS2 and recording equipment all set up again.

i need 10 hours version of thisor maybe 20.

10 hours is a bit much, but I did do a 49-minute video some time ago where I got a 350x boost chain in Time Trial mode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4uboZt8eLVnqKs Someday I would like to get to a 1000x chain, but according to my calculations that would take about 2 hours 15 minutes of unbroken concentration. It's quite the challenge.

@@Astfgl Such a throwback. I had the OG Xbox Live record for this (727 burnouts). It took forever. Only possible thanks to the OG Xbox's custom soundtrack feature. You could at least listen to your favorite songs. I actually had to stop because I was a kid in middle school at the time, and it was like 1:30AM and my parents said go to bed. lol I've never gone for 1000, but it'd be fun to try one day. This was such a great game. I'm sad they've never re-released this one.

I can't even come close to doing this. I have trouble just keeping the car on the track. I'm always scraping the rails/walls during turns and losing most of my speed. I suck at drifting around turns. Either I oversteer and hit the inside edge, or I don't steer enough and hit the outside edge. Some turns, it seems to slam me into the outer edge no matter what I do. Hold the brake and push the other way and my car still slams right into the wall. :(

you have to feel the music it will flow...

To be fair this combination of track and car is basically the ideal case. Most cars in Burnout 2 are pretty tail-happy, making them hard to keep under control at speed, but the Supercar sits on the road like glue. And the Big Surf Shores track has very wide roads with lots of run-off areas, giving you plenty of room for correcting errors. Pulling off an unbroken chain on a tight and twisty track like Crystal Summit Peak is much much harder.
@lurkerrekrul7 жыл бұрын
+Astfgl - I can't do it even with the Supercar. I've almost completed the game. Actually, I haven't played in a while because I got discouraged trying to do the last pursuit race. It seems impossible as the other car is faster than you. I spend a couple minutes catching up to it, hit it once and then it shoots down the track, 300-400 feet away from me and it takes another couple of minutes to catch up to it. Googling, it seems like a lot of people had trouble with that one, with many of them not able to complete it. I know I don't have to do it to go on to the last Grand Prix, but it feels like being a quitter to not do it. I tried the European version and while I didn't finish it (I didn't really put much time into trying), it seems much more fair than the US version. You can actually catch up to the target car in a reasonable amount of time and it doesn't just leave you in the dust. I swear there are parts of that track in the US version where it seems you can't catch the car no matter how perfectly you drive. And when you use Boost, the target car gets faster as well. :(
@Astfgl7 жыл бұрын
I don't really remember that last pursuit race. I probably completed it once back in 2002 and then never played it again. I got the game for Xbox as well years later, but I never bothered to finish the whole campaign after I unlocked the Supercar and all tracks. Anything that involves competing against the rubber-banding AI in Burnout 2 isn't very much fun anyway.
@lurkerrekrul7 жыл бұрын
+Astfgl - It includes part of this track, Big Surf Shores, with the finish line being somewhere up around the lighthouse. The most hits I've ever gotten in that one is eight (out of ten). Everyone says that either they gave up or that they got really lucky and had the target car crash, giving them an easy win. Even if you drive perfectly, it takes forever to catch up to the target car and regardless of whether you hit him or not, he will easily pull away from you after 2-3 seconds. If you just get up even with the target car and don't do anything, it will speed off after a couple seconds. I've seen the stats on the target car and while it's supposed to have the same top speed as the cop car, it does have better acceleration. However if both of you are going flat-out on a straight-away, how is he able to easily get ahead of you? That didn't seem to happen when I tried the European version. There are two videos of that pursuit on KZbin. In one, the player gets really lucky and has the car crash into him a few times, scoring some easy hits. The other video shows it being done the "right" way, and the player is able to catch up to the car easily, so it's probably the European version.
