I just suffered a 4 month burnout while halfway through making the mg Avalanche exia. I completed it two weeks ago. I started in December after Christmas. I gotta say that during said burnout, I felt a lot more stressed. Yet whenever I built a bit of the kit, it sparked again for a little. This was my first burnout and will probably not be my last. But I know that continuing building but at a slower pace helps both relieve a bit of stress and help get rid of the burnout. (Thanks for reading this far if you did) I just now realized that this was less a burnout and more a prolonged break.

Yes you can. Try generating ideas for customs that require out of print base kits in order to even be aesthetically coherent whilst also saving for school. Or hell, try being a fan of an unpopular series.

I had a 2 year burnout once. Lol i just cant get myself to build stuff. I tried to force my self to build something in that 2 years and lol, just getting the box out of the storage made my motivation to build it totally disappear. Now im back at the hobby and honestly, there is no way to really avoid this. There will come a time that you will get those occasional burnouts. But you can overcome that. I watched a youtuber named miniac. He is a miniature hobbyist. And in a particular video he said that "to avoid getting burned out, dont always give your best at the hobby" he means that, dont just put your entire motivation or heart and soul on a kit that your building. Put something like 80% of your motivation to work and dont over work something. Something like "im gonna build the torso on this day, then the next day i will build the arms" 7 months in and i dont feel a single hint of burning out. Try it, it might help u guys :3 keep on building!

Hi BG It's that guy who wrote about finishing 70+ kits due too being housebound and depressed :) I actually had burnt out (naturally) I'd been building and painting solidly for 2 years. I spent 2 months of not doing anything and I replaced it with exercise! Daily walking, being in nature, while thinking about what I wanted from my hobby and other aspects of my life. Returning to the hobby after reassessing what I wanted from the hobby. I wanted an expressive outlet with something to show from it. And I went back to building and decided that simply building, detailing and painting small details was my current limit. So after coming back I found the love again and decided that I wanted to learn about airbrushing and I did and its added a while new appreciation of the hobby and has added even more "stress" lol but the good kind you get from all sorts of newly opened door. But it also taught me how to plan my builds better and to take my time and mind my approach. It actually helped me grow as a builder and a person. So your video is incredibly true from a personal aspect and I'm glad you've addressed this because I know other will have had the issue. Sorry for the long msg. Keep up the good work dude :)

Been sort of in the same rut, my Sinanju stein ver Ka has been on my backlog for a year. But coming back thinking of trying new techniques and picking up painting also gave me that spark to push myself again. Hopefully it'll therapeutically help bleed into making a positive improvement on my own personal life.

I had burnout once. I took like a month long break from building a kit. Watching KZbin gave me the inspiration to go on. I finished the kit a couple weeks ago. Nice video though. I usually try building one part like a head, arm, or leg everyday when I have a kit. I still somewhat suck at building kits.

Another tip for not getting burn out is to never accept comission builds. Build Gunpla for yourself at your own pace, people can buy your prebuilt kits when you don't want them any more 👍

Great vid! And yeah taking a break is a good option, I had a point where I had too many kits to build but I decided to take my time and build only when I wanted to, I had a strike rouge that stayed untouched for months and when I saw it built after looking at the sealed box for weeks and weeks it felt so good!

Been through a burnout or two, Always come back to the hobby. But it kinda reminds me of my relationship with dota 2 played that game for 5 something years. every now and then I put it down and come back once a few patchs hit. But for Gunpla it was getting kits that I always wanted or very complex kits. Used to get kits every week, now it's more like every few months. I think it also helps if you become more picky over kits. Guy's it's okay to put things down figure stuff out and come back to something!

I think one thing that helps with burnout, just in my case at least, is to try and seek out new modeling experiences. Like, for the longest time I was just building HGUC stuff, and I ended up being bored and burned out at the general building processes being pretty standardized and such. So I switched up and started building Kotobukiya kits and ended up LOVING building kits again. And then when I returned to HG kits, it was back with the IBO stuff, and with how radically different that stuff was compared what I was used to back in the day. Point of the matter is, if you're in a burnout phase, try expanding to stuff that you don't usually do I guess.

I have Gunpla burnout for a couple of reasons. The biggest one is that ones it's done, its it's done. Unlike with build fighters after I finish a kit, and preferably either customize it and or pretty it up, I cant then take it to the local non-existent game center and battle other like minded hobbyists in intense life-like high-speed casual duels with my personal precious gunplas. So it's a little underwhelming after I build my newest child and have no way to play with them or show them off. The second reason is that Bandai is the sole legal maker of gunpla, and most other mecha series have alot less kits and or are from more exclusive and expensive brands like kotobukiya (not that I particularly mind since other brands can sometimes have better kits than Bandai's, so it's a tradeoff). So I am stuck with whatever they decide deserves a kit or not, whether or not they gave it a good mechanical design that functions better than the hg unicorn, whether they decide to make it an easily available retail kit or a limited stock p-bandai or other exclusivity kit, and also whether or not they allow the parts to be easily used amongst many other kits or if they strangely decide that certain kits need to use specific connectors and ports. The third reason is my lack skill. I dont want to flex, especially because I dont have much to flex with, but I can make a decent gunpla most of the time, and I also have tools to paint with. However I definitely lack the skills, know-how, and specialized tools to make the kits of my dreams. For example I want to make a gunpla version of Blitzgreymon from Digimon. I have an idea to use the G-Self Perfect Pack version as the base kit since the Perfect Pack functions in a roughly analogous way to the way Blitzgreymon's Electric Verniers work. But even just a glance at Blitzgreymon's design and you'll see that I'll need to either scratch build ALOT of parts, or sacrifice ALOT of gunpla to get roughly analogous parts from them (by the way if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them, and if you decide to take on this crazy challenge yourself I'd love to see what you can come up with!). And the fourth reason is the more minor one, I'm lazy. My room is far from organized because once I set something down it often just sits around for a long time, because I often get dragged into my other hobbies, find interest in another things (currently into yu-gi-oh for example), or simply wish to take the easier path and lay down while playing a videogame. But as I said this reason is a minor one and is easily outweighed by any of the other ones. Burnout in anything can be difficult to handle, this is a good video, and it helps to reiterate thus stuff into my head. P.s. I recently finished my own 1/100 Babatos Lupus strangely enough. It's a good kit!

I've yet to experience burnout but it will probably happen sooner or later. Usually i'm able to complete a kit the same day it arrives. (Mainly cos i collect HGs) Only exception was the Ver Ka Nu as that was my 3rd ever kit and i needed to go to bed so he had no pelvis, legs, backpack or weapons overnight. He was finished the morning after, give-or-take. There have been at least two others iirc: the Ver Ka Sazabi, understandably as that boi be MASSIVE, and... i can't remember the other one... if there even WAS one... I've been collecting since very late 2014 so my collection is fairly sizeable by now. I have almost 200 kits i think... comprised of both HG & MGs along with all retail RGs (but only from RX-78 to the Tallgeese for now) and the Mega Size Gundam.

I have taken a fairly long break from building gunpla for...I believe four key reasons: 1: I'm too rough with my kit(s): I am not exactly the most..."gentle" person when it comes to kit building. In fact I'm hesitant to even build my first custom out of fear of breaking it(btw my first custom is a Lunagazer custom called the starlight waltz) 2: I'm a noob: I have literally built three kits. Each time I felt I missed something or did something wrong. 3: building a suit I don't know: I know very few suits in the gundam multiverse and most of the kits I get I don't know but their the only ones I can afford. 4: finding the right suit: there are a lot of suits as I previously mentioned. What I'm trying to do is find the right one for me.

is it really "burnout" i can't think of single aspect of gunpla building that is either stressful or requires a huge amount of work. any major projects within gunpla as a hobby are always self imposed because even the most complicated or big kits wont take longer then a day or two to snap build and line. i think it's just that people's interests change. and sometimes it takes something your truly passionate about to bring you back. so the easy answer is just wait. wait until you find something that lights the fire again, or find something else to fill your time.
