Burnsville Center in 2021 - FULL TOUR in 4K

Burnsville Center is a regional mall located in Burnsville, Minnesota, a south suburb of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint. Paul. In this video we take a full walk-through tour of the mall, walking throughout both the upper and lower levels as well as the food court.
Burnsville Center was opened in 1977 and was a thriving shopping mall for decades all the way up until the opening of the Mall of America in the early 1990s in nearby Bloomington. As the "Mega Mall" attracted more shoppers and indoor shopping centers fell in popularity over the years, Burnsville Center has seen less traffic and more vacant storefronts.
Nevertheless, Burnsville Center is still hanging in there. The mall is clean and well-maintained. It allows options for short-term leasing of storefronts along with pop-up shops and kiosks. It's conveniently located in the south metro of the Twin Cities at the convergence of 35W and 35E.
As a teenager in the 1980's, Burnsville Center was a place where I spent a lot of time. With an in-mall movie theater and a second theater in the parking lot, this was a place parents would drop off the kids for hours at a time and pick them up later. I remember clearly the bank of payphones at the top of the escalator, from which I would commonly call home to be picked up.
Hopefully, the City of Burnsville and regional planners can find a modernized use for this versatile old mall and it can continue a successful run into the future!

Awesome. I am no longer in Minnesota, but i grew up in Lakeville during the 80s/90s. I have very fond memories of going to the Burnsville Center when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing!

After high school in 1980 I worked in the mall on the third shift cleaning and waxing floors there, it was just our 4 man crew and the guard and the Winchles Donuts lady in the building at night. I really think they should avoid putting carpet in a mall or store as the stains are hard to get out where on a hard floor you just spot mop the spill or go over it with a scrubber and your done.

This is a nice looking mall, as far as aesthetics go inside! Too bad it's slowly dying. BTW, the Macy's at Burnsville Center is unfortunately on the company neighborhood store list, which means stores with the lowest sales and most likely to close. There are something about 60 stores on that list, and fortunately for this store Macy's has said in early 2022 that only 10 of the neighborhood stores may be closing. Sadly, I'm hearing talk Macy's might close the remaining 50=ish stores on that list(which don't shut down in 2022), by early 2023.

We started going here around 2009 when we moved to the area. Even back then it was very much still alive. A lot I miss about it from back then. I still like going once in awhile but I can’t help but feel sad when I do.

That was really neat to that Spencer's next to JC Penney. Spencer's I remember. I can't remember if it was there going back to the 80s, but I know it was there going back to the 90s! Of course, that JC Penney has been there going back to the 80s at least.

Malls were like meccas in 1980's Twin Cities. My favorite one was Maplewood Mall had something for everyone and was huge for its time. The Dales excluding Brookdale were too pricy and for high income people.

This mall was built 1977 dang! My mom house was built 1960. That’s cray cray! I love this mall.

In the eighties it was the biggest mall in the metro area with the most stores as well. Some claim Southdale was the biggest in my times in Minnesota 1981-1991 but not true.

it's sad that this mall is dying. once I went there and notice the food courts arcade, gyro spot, Sbarro's and panda express were gone I knew it'd be a ghost mall ( even then there was max 20 people there shopping ) . that was the best part after getting tired shopping and relaxing by the fire pit with some food then gaming after.

@@destinationtwincities No sarcasm. I used to like to go there since I worked at a Suncoast as a teenager and it was nostalgic since it was in the guts of one and was the current storefront for the same company.

I remember the Suncoast at this mall. If I remember correctly it was located either right above the FYE or on the other side by Sears.

The Burnsville Center was a really great mall. And then I remember when Mall of America was first made. From this video, it looks like the Burnsville Center is dead compared to how it was when I was a kid. Perhaps Mall of America stole some of those patrons?

It started going downhill when the Mall of America opened 10 miles away in 1992. It's been slowing down a lot over the past 10 years. I was a young mallrat here in the glory days of the '80s.

I felt the mall was always super busy as kid who would go in the late 2000s early 2010s. I noticed a stark decline starting around 2014 2015

You're right - and the more places that shut down, the more that other places WILL shut down. Soon, there will be no reason to go downtown other than for the few people left working there, or for sporting events.
