Their contract explicitly states there's no guarantee of any prize. They all agreed to it. Here's a newasflash. If you agree to do a job for free, they don't have to pay you. There is no legal basis to stand on. There's no room for a lawsuit. There's no legal recourse. It'll go to discovery, they'll examine his contract (assuming they wouldn't do that prior to even begining a case) and it would be immediately thrown out the second they get to pay and stipulations where again it's explicitly stated there's no guarantee of anything. It was already openly known if you walk you get nothing. They just assumed that's all it was referencing, which is an misunderstanding/issue on the contestants behalf. I totally understand how it appears scummy on its face to not pay him the $50k for people who didn’t regularly keep up with the show. But starting very early on Burt consistently made it a point when asked by production to say he didn’t care about the money at all and that he would probably just split it with everyone else if he won. This was long before any of the contestants knew what was going on and before it became clear that Burt definitely was going to be the winner. He’s talked about how he makes plenty of money already with his businesses, mid 6 figures, and that if he wanted to make money he would just focus more on that when he was specifically asked about the money in Mizzy’s interview. He’s made it clear continuously on the show and also on post-show interviews that the entire reason he wanted to do the show is for the fame/exposure/social media engagement. As far as I can tell from someone who followed the show every day, I think production made a totally reasonable judgement call to go for the roulette gamble at the end as a sort of wild card finale, as opposed to giving someone who is already well-off financially another $50k that he didn’t even care about himself. If they won the roulette gamble at the end that would have been so hype so I can kind of understand why they made that call
