As a non step in fan, I'd choose the Clew. First, compatible with any boot. Second, you can hike and walk with your boots without risking any pieces because you can unstrap like a regular binding and your boots have no crucial hooks or something. The one thing I'd like to know, is the weight. I know that the step on are really light, but I don't know about the Clew. But anyway, Clew for me (if I had to choose).
@felderosa2 жыл бұрын
in another video it mentions that the clew binding is a bit heavier, but i wonder how much heavier the burton stepon boots are vs regular boots.

The CLEWs are dope! Super adjustable and can be dialed in for any size boot and shape! Been riding them all season, size 13 boot and 225lbs, no issues at all. Just quick riding after getting off the lift, don’t even need to stop to click in.

Thank you for the review. I think I am leaning towards the Clew. I have been riding K2 Clickers for the last 20 years and I blew out my boots on the cleat. I thought I was a K2 owner for life. This Clew binding makes a lot of sense! Love the idea and I love the fact that I don’t have to bend over as far to get out of my bindings. Love that they have performance in mind with no sloppy fit. Love that they dont have the issue of the K2 cleat getting clogged up with snow. Been there done that! This looks like the perfect binding! My kid told me about this and I was like no… we need to stick to the K2. After watching this video I think I like the idea of the Clew. Great job on the video!

The front inner cleats on my 2019/20 step-ons have peeled off and have taken part of my sole with it. It is on my non-primary foot (with the most step in and outs). It was first used in March 2020 until May 2020, then the full season of 2020/21 (Dec 2020 - Apr 2021). The damage occured 1 month into the 2021/22 season (last week). It hasn't lasted 2 full seasons (ride average 2-3 times / week @ 2-3 hours per ride) before the cleats/sole peeling off. This is my first snowboard boot so I don't have a point of comparison vs other boots. Is this normal? How often do you change your boots.
@ap56723 жыл бұрын
I am an intermediate rider and mostly stays on the groomers at medium speed. As I said this is my first boot but it seems kind of fragile of the step-ons to barely last 2 seasons. Other than the cleat/sole peeling off the condition of the boots is mint.

picked up the '22 burton step on binding (with the new toe catch) and photon boots last Thursday, and tried them out yesterday for the first time. Fortunately I needed both boots and bindings anyways. Stepping in for the first time was a little awkward having to aim your heel first, but after a couple runs was nbd. The first 2 runs I forgot about the snowpants clip and had no issues, though that coulda been just luck, after that I put them in the clip and had zero issues. They didn't come out at all all day. Responsiveness was awesome and didn't take long to adapt to them. I'm not a very experienced boarder. I will say the up front cost is a bit intimidating too, but since pretty much everyone else I know skis the speed and convenience of the Burtons is a huge game changer. I will say I was somewhat interested in the Clews before getting the Burtons, but I couldn't find a store around me that had any, whereas Burton was hard to find, but I did find 2 stores that carried/could order them.

I used Flow NX2 for a season and found I always had to micro adjust the toe strap which defeated the purpose. I switched to K2 Cinch TX which were much better. On Nov 2 2017, Burton released their Step On system which I preordered. I’ve used Step Ons for 5 seasons. Speed, convenience, all day comfort - and toe to heal response is unmatched. Psychologically it’s seems strange at first not to have a strap but once you get past that mental block you’ll be fine. My advice is to use a set of bindings for an entire season before decide which is best. But I will never go back to straps. As a Scientist and engineer… here’s why you’ll break a strap first before you’ll ever pop out of the Step On system. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2rTaaOffqybndk

Loved the step ons for the first 20 days until the gas pedal fell off. But got a replacement. And then less so when at 40 days I'd lost the genesis hammock which off because its crap held on by pop rivet and lost the replacement gas pedal because its crap held on by some little plastic teeth... But after day 40 when the photons started falling apart along both toe seams, and the toe clips started failing and i could pull my foot out of the binding with about 20lb lift, and the toe would lift off when riding and get snow under it by day 65 and had no Burton support at all in EU despite promises of contact...I was grateful for a store credit for the entire system. But it would have been in court if they hadn't. Wouldn't be surprised if Burton get sued at some stage for injuries relating to those toe clips...

Given my step ons fell apart over 70 days continuous riding hammocks fell off, gas pedals fell off, toe clips worn out to the point that you could pull your foot out by day 65 and would lose the toe just doing heel turns, and the entire toe box ripped apart on both boots between day 40 and 70 I would say - go KLEW. They have STRAPS... So just avoid burton until they sort out the 5 or 6 glaring failures - most significantly they are very cheaply made.
