In episode 5 of my 1991 Volkswagen Jetta MK2 build, it's time to go through the list of everything that is wrong with my $1500 project car. Trust me, it's a long list. (much longer than I expected).

I've had several MK2 Jettas, and i love them... Granted with age come necessary maintenance.... You have the ideal starting platform, with a Vr6 already in it. You can only go up with that MK2 GLi. Make her a mean beast...

Any rust treat it as quick as you can as it is a car killer for sure! Also top tip if your car has already been be swapped any vr6 will bolt into the engine bay, that includes the 3.2 r32 engine and the 3.6 r36 engines they will bolt straight into the car and gearbox 👌😝 recommend a bigger brake kit too if your thinking of going turbo with the car 🤘

mmm mk3 gauges in a mk 2 dash.....the VR6 swap includes the wiring lume of the VR6 donor car OBD2 obviously mk3, so some try mounting the cluster into the mk 2 dash to save time. it a lot of work to swap the dash . a complete mk 3 dash does fit with some shaving around the edges here and there

I love these Jettas, one of the best looking cars from the 80’s IMO. I mostly own and drive Civics so all the problems VWs have would seem overwhelming to me, we never have really any common issues on older Hondas. My friend had a Mk3 and the issues on that thing where outrageous. It seems like the Mk2 is a lot better than the Mk3 however. That being said the Civic doesn’t have half the cool factor..

Hey man, been watching your videos on the Jetta, loving the content and the vr6 sounds, $1500 is cheap even with the problems. First thing I'd say is get it safe to drive and carry passengers. Start on the engine, if she's runni g low psi most probably needs new piston rings/ringlands the odometer is from a mk3 so most probably is the same odometer that come out of the car the engine came from. With respect to the speakers check the fuses may also be a reason the other seatbelts don't work. Very minor issues with the car, the coilovers you can wind up to make the car a bit more driveable and not ruin the car in the process... Keep up the videos bro. Love the content.🤘✌️

the seat is one allen bolt to hold it in right by the handel you pull to move it. that is mk 3 interior steering wheel along with the power steering all mods you need to complete the Vr6 transplant corvette (salad tossers) rims. mk 3 is 1993-1998 mk 2 the body 1984-1992. thats a pretty good buy for 1500. i have a 1990 jetta GTX here in canada is the can version of the GLI of USA mines far from mint but put a lot into her, vw life isn't cheap, i've been into vdubs since 1990s heres a video on mine one day i was bored just starting to pick up on video editing kzbin.info/www/bejne/maPGlKp_pNGtnKc

When you get another project car first thing to change is the brake caliber, spark plugs, all the filters, all the engine belts and the fluid in the gear box I forgot what its called and the oil

I know this video is old but you are worried about cosmetics and that should be your last problems to fix, you should worry about the brakes, the belts that makes the engine rotate

Very good point - but honestly I would not of known what to look for in the engine, brakes, belts, etc.. This was and is my first project car, my mechanical experience is/was still very little. Plus, plan was to engine swap it asap.

By the way man that's a nice car if it was me a wouldn't swap the engine cause here in south Africa the MK3 VR6 was burned by the government so the are no parts for the engine

mk2 wiring is always rotten, green death, not so much in the car but engine bay. where the clusters of wires junction check there, its a job no one wants to do but it could be the answer to a lot of issues. but then again buying someone else's modded vw is a risk either way vw is a love hate relation ship, being a vw owner has forced me to be a mechanic, i wouldn't trade em for anything else
