Thank you for this because it’s been on my playlist for ages! I feel so validated!!! It’s so painful to think of all the trauma Anthy has to bear and witness as a young girl. I think the song really captures that hopeless feeling of a cycle you can’t escape no matter what. How alone and powerless one must feel. It feels reassuring to remember she does eventually get out of these circumstances to get to a place where she values herself and feels supported/cared for by the people around her. Anthy always gets me 🥺💗

I know this comment is months old, but my adhd brain won't let me leave this alone until I get this out: I think all of the viewings you mentioned are valid because at it's core RGU is about how everyone working within a system plays a part in perpetuating said system. Akio represents the dominiering, violent and abusive force of toxic masculinity and partiarchy. Anthy is a victim but she still prepetuates the system by enambiling Akio. Utena comes along with her idealized version of "rebellion" which in actuality only switches the placement of the figures on the playing board, but doesn't change or break the game (until the very end). Anyway, have a nice day 😅
