This answers a long forgotten question I never asked, of the charter motorcoach company for whom I worked for 14 years, "why did they send several of us to gain certification (mine, was Carrier semi-hermetic air conditioning systems, in 1982, while on leave from NATO/OTAN duty in the USAF; I parlayed that cert into a Carrier dealership; should anyone have to work on a semi-herm compressor, remember, it's usually the unloader valves that are at some percentage of blame). The answer became evident when I noticed, several BGM videos/years back, that truck shops and truck stops don't know "diddley" about anything except for fueling, and maybe filter replacement, when it comes to EVERYTHING bus/motorcoach.

I've maintained since I started watching your channel there are an alarming number of old busses on the road today that are in a serious condition of disrepair. The scariest part is often the owners are not even aware of how dangerous their bus is. Some are so bad, as illustrated in this episode, they are held together by little more than force of habit. Must be one hell of a habit though!

WOW!! this video takes me back to a previous recent comment Scott, where I said these busses need to be brought into some sort of yearly inspection across all states, registering them as motorhomes or RVs and then letting them loose on unsuspecting owners isn't a wise thing, if there is not a reason to inspect most will save the money, safety is always someone elses problem.

Scott, would you perhaps consider a longer format video demonstrating what a bus owner should check/inspect before each trip, and the other things and at what intervals? Fluids are, or ought to be a no-brainer along with tire pressure. Modern vehicles are so durable, they’ve spoiled us. How often do you see a disabled vehicle pulled off on the side of the road? Quite common in the 60s & 70s for this 67 year old.

@vw4x42 жыл бұрын
5:50 minutes into the video. That axle shaft may not be bad. The bearing has an inner race. That is where the bearing needs to be round. All the axle has to do is center the bearing. As long as the bearing was not cocked or sloppy on he axle, the axle could be reused.

It's friggen amazing how many shops have no concern about customers safety. It's all about "get them out the door" to collect the cash. Poor maintenance can kill you. Especially on vehicles as large as a bus or motorhome. My Mom caught the shop at the top of our street attempting to cheat her on what should have been a fairly cheap repair on her car. Unfortunately for him my Mom worked at Flint Michigan's Buick City factory and knew exactly what the problem was. She turned him in to Sunoco because he kept holding her car hostage till she paid a bill far beyond what it should have been. They sent 4 vehicles to his shop with known problems. He tried the same thing with them onky worse since the cars had out of state licences. They revoked his dealership and my Mom took him to court and she got 4 times what he tried to scam her as ordered by the court. He ended up out of business. Do that in a small farm town and you'll end up that way.

What frightens me is that so many owners had no idea. Shows in some cases how well they don't look after their buses.
@davidjones3322 жыл бұрын
The difficulty is that, even if the owners recognise a fault, heavy stuff like this is just not a DIY proposition. You need some serious workshop kit to tackle these jobs and a fair amount of brute strength. Essentially, if you can't afford to pay professional workshop prices, running an old bus is probably not a realistic idea for most people.

Typically no. Vehicles like these busses require *you* to do an inspection *every time you drive it.* Most people don't know this (except anyone that drives commercially) and that is why we see the kinds of things that are shown in the video. People either don't know to inspect or they don't know how. Some of these things (like engine issues) would be difficult to diagnose if you're not a mechanic. A lot of the other issues are noticeable with a little effort and would get you in big trouble if the police pulled you over for one of their safety inspections.
