Hi Krunal, mostly vintage compressors multiband nhi hote they so multiband concept is available in plugins format. Multiband compression is just compression applied independently on individual frequency range. It is a great tool to go and pin point certain pain areas in frequencies and control that portion only leaving rest of the frequencies uncompressed. Hope this added some value to your knowledge. What do we mean by 'overcompressed vocals/instrumental tracks'? I can understand the difference when I bypass the plugin, but what can I do to avoid it ? It seems to reduce the natural dynamics of my vocals.

Hi Soumil, Let us help you out here. Over compression means when you kill the dynamic range of any audio element so much that it starts sounding very dead and lifeless. Ideally a safe compression setting would be to have maximum of 3db gain reduction and that too with right attack/release settings. The main purpose of compression is to control the volume fluctuations in the audio which you can by definition call dynamic range ; difference between softest and loudest note/hit. The softly played/sung notes gets berried into the mix so we use compression to bring the lower level information up thus killing the dynamic range hence the world compression. However people over abuse compression plugins and compress their sound alot which then becomes lifeless and flat. It also adds artifacts if not used correctly. So our suggestion would be to uses a compressor With right attack/release settings and achieve max 3 db of gain reduction. If you feel that still more control is required use another compressor and again aim for max 3db compression. This type of serial compression helps bringing control to the volume and you can hear all the softly played notes better than before applying compression. Hope this helps.
