And, railway crossings for school buses are even worse when the crossing signals and gates malfunction at just the moment you're ready to start rolling again. Exactly what happened to me two days ago, signals malfunctioned just as I was about to put the bus in drive to go.

How come y’all just open your doors and look both ways on the railroad track then go. But we have have to put our hazards on, noise suppression on, window open, stop 15 feet before the nearest rail, apply the parking brake, put the bus in neutral, open the door, look both ways 4 times, close the door, drop it to first gear, cross the tracks slowly, after 50 feet from the tracks hazards go off, put it in drive, window closed, noise suppression back off and continue on your way. (This hurt to type)

@@Jax_LPD it hurt to read too - we use hazards and door and stop. That part is firm. The rest… depends on if it’s a check ride or not🤣 seriously though the concept is to look and listen for trains before crossing. If you do the first three the rest is situational if you deem it necessary. I never understood the whole shifting and parking brake crap, especially when some of our railways sit in the middle of highways. Stop long enough to verify the safety of crossing, and get a move on before some semi plows into you 😂

@@Joshua_RT the main thing keeping us from moving our 09s and 12s into spare service is Thomas… we’re waiting on 4 buses that haven’t been delivered yet. And we need them. So the old ones get stuck working daily beyond their anticipated life span because Thomas for whatever reason likes to be terrible about delivering on time. One of the reasons we considered going to IC
