Sorry, but I find it enabling. Adam is reinforcing her backward demeanor by embracing it into being. He's encouraging it, actually, because that is what gets Daddy's attention. Children will misbehave for attention, not even realizing it. The same with a very shy child. He needs to praise any time she comes out of her shell, not cuddle and coddle when she doesn't.
