I like Bush and Nirvana. They're not really comparable. A "nirvana rip off" would be a band where you could picture Kurt Cobain and the rest of Nirvana singing and playing Bush's songs, and when I think about that, it doesn't seem right at all. It's like saying Soundgarden or Pearl Jam are Nirvana rip off bands. What, just because Bush is a rock band from the same time period they get labeled a Nirvana rip off band?

Man I miss this so much. Bush was my life back then. Matt Pinfield was so cool. I loved seeing Robin in this interview. The only one I never got to meet. 😭

Timing of it all and people were still mourning and in Britain people were annoyed because America discovered them first, swallowed is pixies esque but lots of there early music sounding more like pj harvey than anything grunge.

I remember this interview from back in 1996. To this day i'll never understand why they chose Albini to record that album. The moment Bush came on to the scene they were labeled Nirvana ripoffs. I like Bush but to be fair they had a lot of similarities. I still remember being dumbfounded when I first heard they chose to use Albini to record that record after being constantly labeled as a Nirvana ripoff. Even Dave Grohl jumped in and stated they were Nirvana ripoffs and the first thing they do when recording a followup to their major label release is to do the same thing Nirvana did and record with Albini.

idk, to me it doesn't seem or even feel like bush copied nirvana, grunge was in and many bands, even pearl jam and soundgarden had a somewhat similar sound and idea, so to say that bush are rip off's doesnt make sense, i think ppl throw that out there because post-nirvana there were more alternative rather than grunge groups, so the sound seemed to loose its touch and the fact that they were british, alot of ppl knock them just on that fact alone!

im a huge nirvana fan and a big bush one as well but isnt it somewhat ironic that they talk about steve albini basically the whole interview and fail to mention he worked with nirvana on In Utero record... lmfao. i love gavin and kurt (theres no comparison, sorry) and this is a classic interview lol

No No, I was talking about him talking in this interview,, I know everything that happened with nigel,, no one can replace his sound!

@mildseven0506 It's more complicated than that.They also had Pearl Jam and even Pumpkins ("alien") elements. People didn't feel they were authentic (rightly or not).Interscope records wanted a radio-friendly, palatable grunge band (they wanted to sign Stiltskin- check them out, you'll have a laugh- but signed Bush instead). A band that would do every appearance and be marketed in America.Gavin's pre Bush music didn't sound as cool as the inluence he put forward later btw.

yeah bush sounds like nirvana how. i like nirvana but i hate how every fucking big fan says that every other band around that time sounds like nirvana. desipite what you think nirvana is not the godly band you think they are all of thier albums have the same sound except unplugged. quit ridding kurts nuts he would not like his fans having no derversity in thier music. you know kurt was a Abba fan yeah true thats a fact.

Try not to let teenage sentiment get in the way of your judgement. And if my opinions dont matter why take the time react so bitter? And if all you can come back with is criticism of one's punctuation then you've lost sight of what we were discussing. Which was.............Bush were "post grunge" Critically slammed. Unoriginal. And had really bad lyrics. Facts son, (quite handy) @AddLies LOL Razorblade Suitcase was a ridiculous name for an album, "post grunge" parody.
@kanedasrifle15 жыл бұрын
Bush fucking sucked big time! Nirvana rip offs, everyone hated them in the UK, (where NIrvana were adored) Just dervitive generic Post Grunge with poor lyrics over some admittedly decent tunes.
