My sister Genevieve passed away in 2009 from cancer. Every time I visit her at her apartment, she'd ask me to play this song, almost religiously. It got harder and harder to visit once the chemo and experimental drugs took a toll on her body. I owe her my taste in music, movies. Almost everything. Today is the anniversary of her passing (May 14th) I'm here now, listening to this with a smile on my face. I miss my sister. She was my best friend. I don't know why I'm putting this out in the world, maybe it'll have someone appreciate whoever makes them happy a little bit more or turn up this song that much louder.

I completely agree. I think we're the last generation to have had decent music. I always say, "everything after 9/11 is crap", because the 90s was the last decade of good music, imo anyway. From 2000 onward, music got significantly worse each year. Music now is so generic. Most of it is completely lacking emotion, purpose and meaning. It's all created using the same industry formula, so it's boring, predictable and repetitive. Creativity, originality, freedom of expression and real talent has nearly disappeared from modern music. All we're left with is auto tuned garbage designed to please algorithms and promote agendas. I was 14 in 1999. Bush was one of my favorite bands for years. Although they're not in my top 3 favorites anymore, I still listen to their music from back then. Good music can stand the test of time. That's why we still listen to music from decades ago, but forget about new songs right away. Radio stations are still playing tons of music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, because it's good music that passed the test of time.

Hot guy singing a sweet song about sadness. This song is about a close friend of Bush frontman lead singer Gavin Rossdale who had the HIV illness, but didn't tell anyone for six months because was ashamed. When Gavin found out, he felt real bad that his friend didn't feel comfortable talking about it, and wrote this about breaking the silence.

Because it MEANS something. The meaning of music these days is lost in profitabilitism. Not saying it wasn't about profit in those times, just that it's the one and only reason left to release something these days. Which means releasing generally bullshit that as many people with low IQ or no nack for arts will enjoy. Bluntly, to sell as much as you can to people who never really listen to the lyrics or care about art.

But he passed too soon. We used to listen to this song together all the time when it first came out. Maybe it was enough.

I lived through some of the best eras for music - 80s (pre-teen, teen, very young adult) and 90s (20something). Punk, pop, rock, grunge...whether a mosh pit or my own bedroom, I adored it all and rocked out as much as possible. And yet somehow I always gravitated to the most melancholy song(s) on any album, and still do. This is one of my favorites, because the quiet, slower-paced music was a bit of departure for them at the time, the lyrics cut deep, and the synthesis of the two is perfect.

I can't believe this was released when I was 17 years old! I'm 41 now and this is still probably my favorite song of theirs. I still remember calling the radio station over and over again requesting this song. I don't understand why it wasn't played more... highly underrated song. 🤘🖤
