Hello from Canada, Lilly. I love watching all your videos. I am one who enjoys spending as much time as I can in the bush. I enjoy the wildlife and have been blessed to have had close encounters with bears, bald eagles, snowshoe hares, foxes and more. I listened to an elder native who once told me " talk to the animals of the forest. They will hear you and respect you" I have never been harmed nor threatened by any wild creature in all my time spent in the woods. Anyway, I wondered if you have ever tried bannock? I have seen it made several times on KZbin but I have yet to see it made properly. Everyone I saw show them kneading the bannock recipe. The proper way is to fold the ingredients to create air bubbles in the mixture and then pour into the container you are going to cook it in. Instead of coming out dense it will have a more bread like texture. Keep the videos coming, Lilly. All the best

You can also wrap the dough around a wooden stick like a cork screw and put the stick leaning over the fire at a 45 degree angle with the dough over the coals. You just have to rotate the stick to cook the dough evenly.

Here's a little secret to avoid egg shell in the your eggs. Crack the eggs on a flat surface instead of the edge of the pan. The edge breaks off pieces of the shell and drives them through the inner membrane and into the egg. If you crack in on a flat surface the shell cracks like a windscreen on a car, with the inner membrane intact. Then just push your fingers into the crack and the egg will split open without any egg shell falling into your breakfast. Looks like winter has arrived in east Austria. Looking forward to hearing about your first overnight-er in your new shelter.

Here is a nice list of things you can do with egg shells. My favorite is to add them to your ground coffee. The acid in the coffee leaches the Ca out and adds it to your coffee and it also removes some of the bitterness, if that is a problem for you. www.theprairiehomestead.com/2012/08/9-things-to-do-with-eggshells.html

Olive oil is not supposed to be heated that hot. It is only supposed to be used warm to drizzel. A chemical reaction happens to olive oil when it gets too hot (such as during frying) and it actually becomes unhealthy to consume. Oils that are best for frying are vegetable, sesame, peanut, canola, etc. Besides, bacon makes its own delicious grease!

Love your Videos, Always great to see people practicing their skills. Too many people get in a bad situation an find out the hard way that it's not as easy as it looks. My Aunt died recently and had retired from the U.S State department and she lived in Austria for 10 year's, She said other than America Austria was the most beautiful country she had ever visited. She had 40 years in the field and had visited over 150 countries so that is saying something about her Love for Austria

Haha! And awesome, using a pair of twigs as chopsticks! Just out of curiosity, you don't mind taking tools like axes, hand saws, and tarps; and you keep a large bow saw pre-positioned at the site. And of course the fire starting kit you keep with you. Why not carry a field chow utensil kit as a regular item? I have a metal spoon and chopsticks that take virtually no space or weight.

Once I had to find shelter in about 20 degrees and a few inches of snow. I walked down into a canyon with drop off on one side and hill on the other. Finally I saw a tree like yours that was dry underneath, but on slanted ground. I had a useless sleeping bag, a shower curtain, and my coat, I was sliding down hill. I climbed in the bag atop my shower curtain with my coat over my head to hold in heat. Then the noises began. I could only make out directions, but not what. Was it a wild animal? Or a person? The more I listened the more scared I got. Finally, after about 20 minutes more (around midnight) I was rescued!

Love the rough chop sticks you were using. Seeing all the attention in bushcraft circles to making spoons I have always wondered why folks were not making chop sticks as their first utensils. Having spent a year deep in China, I am probably biased, but once you get used to the utility of chop sticks, it's hard to not have them jump to mind in most any eating situation other than soups, etc. Is there a reason you don't just rely on the bacon fat to cook the eggs with rather than adding olive oil? Also, the camp is looking good!

I fully agree that chopsticks are a great eating utensil, especially for most of the things you're likely to be cooking up and eating in the wilderness. And you can drink soups straight from your mug or cooking pot so that's covered, too.

Very nice breakfast! And as always, great work on the video style - you videos are well thought out and high quality. Keep up the good work! One comment on saw safety (I am a safety nag! :o) At 2:43 your left holding hand was fairly close to that moving bow saw blade. If holding that close, its good to wear a leather glove for the holding hand because that saw blade can bind, slip and pop out. Rare, but the consequences of that blade across the thumb are scary!

I couldn't agree more with this statement. A pair of welding gloves will make sawing safer and they will help you taking hot pans out of the fire.

Have you ever tried carrying eggs in a glass bottle? Crack the eggs and put them inside of a glass container with a suitable diameter. The closed glass container is less likely to beak than the shell of the eggs. Some times a yoke comfortably fits inside of a bottle that use to have olives inside of it. I am in the USA and live in a place that was used in WWII to train troops for the invasion of Germany because of similarities in terrain and vegitation.

Duarte Valley Homestead In our Bug-out Cave we built a stone oven. We were baking 14" flat bread pizzas in 19 degree weather a few weeks ago, my Grand kids were having a ball. LOL we stacked flat rocks and put our hickory coals in the back like a real brick oven. Next trip I will take a thermometer to see how hot it gets. Pizzas took about 30 minutes but, biscuits were brown on top and raw on the bottom so we had to turn them. Got to figure how to make the heat circulate.

That was interesting how you cooked that bread even though it got all dirty. Bacon I don't eat since pork is really bad for people to eat. I cook turkey with my eggs instead or thin sliced beef. I was just at the store today looking at camping equipment and saw some stainless steel cups just like the one you have and thought how handy those must be. Since I wasn't there to buy camping equipment I didn't buy one. But figured I would pick it up at a later time. There's a few things I want to get actually but am waiting until I have my bills covered this week and see what money I have left. I don't know if you have seen the folding back packing stoves, I got one so far but want to get another one soon. I'm also working on buying a fishing kayak since I sold my canoe awhile ago. The kayak will be easier to put on my truck and easier to store. I'm hoping by spring time to do some live videos. My channel is fairly new so I just put my first camping videos together using photos I had taken in the past. So I'm hoping this year to share more. I'm enjoying watching what you do and how you do it. There aren't many women who can do what you do.
