I am a 74 year old disabled former Southern Baptist Pastor/Missionary whose camping days are over because the woods are not wheelchair accessible but my love for the out of doors is still in my heart. I can still enjoy God's nature through your videos. Thank you.

Hey Joe ! After watching your ,videos , I had to give your tarp method a try in the rain . So as the storm was approaching , in my back yard [in Ojai ca.) I built tarp shelter that you would approve of ! I use my bass pro shops Cott. To be off the ground . That night THE temp. Dropped to 42' f. With a good half inch an hour down pour though the night ! My wool blanket and 30 degree so. Cal. Sleeping bag kept me warm all night !!! My girl friend thought I was crazy !!! But now I know I can build the same shelter , stay dry and warm any where in the woods !!! Plus it's fun ! Thank you again Joe for sharing all your tricks of the out doors !!! Bless you brother l!l 👍👍👍🎥🍔

What you said about giardia is SPOT ON! Two years ago I rode my Harley across the states from Florida to Vancouver, BC. On the way back I got very sick. I almost had to fly home and ship the bike. There is nothing fun about constant diarrhea, nausea, fever, stomach cramps, etc. while you are trying to ride a Harley 8 to 10 hours a day. Yeah it sucked. I'm a very clean person and have no idea where I picked it up at because the incubation period can be up to three weeks. During that time I camped out in several different states, so it's tough to say where I got it. Anyway, bottom line is that I know that I did not drink any contaminated water because I drank only bottled water/soda/beer/etc. the entire trip. I was sick for a total of two months and lost 18 lbs during that time. Giardia is NOTHING to play with. Still, that being said, I grew up drinking out of every creek and river in Alaska and never had a problem. So it's my opinion that human encroachment in wild lands is probably to blame for the increased frequency. Just my opinion.

Just watched one of your older videos, great video. One thing I thought of your passing of Scout is us the viewers may have memories, pictures and a few short videos. But you have amazing videos of his life with you and your family and how fulfilled and happy he was. Viewers can see that, thanks Joe.

I know what you mean by the feeling of calm and peace you find in the woods. In the words of the great Ted Nugent: There I was back in the wild again. I felt right at home, where I be-long. I had the feeling, coming over me again. Just like it happened so many times be-fore. eh. The Spirit of the Woods is like an old good friend. Makes me feel warm and good in-side. From his song; Fred Bear.

I agree with the plastic zip bags for gathering water. What i do is bring a large "grocery shopping bag" with straps, and several zip locks. I fill them all and zip close, bring them all back to camp in the grocery bag, hang that up in a tree. Quick access to one water bag at a time in camp. It all then packs away when empty "rolled up together" very easy.
