I found one of these tonight and did a Google search of the gadget. Then came straight to you tube to see how to use it. My father was a knot boy in the Navy he taught me lots of knots also how to make rope. These days I have a lot of arthritis in my hands so don't like to aggravate it. I'm a snowbird that means I winter in Florida. It's way more comfortable than cold and snow. This item will come in handy. Thank you for teaching me.

Hello Mick, Thanks for doing this Figure 9 Review, I love organization which to me boils down to 3 things "speed simplicity and reliability" although I know many knots by memory however a knot is worthless if you can't remember it. The Figure 9 SAVES TIME. As a Gadget guy, this Figure 9 tool, checks all of the boxes....

I quite agree Ben, not for the purist who likes to tie knots, but in winter when you have gloves on, could be a winner. I will enjoy using them more I think. Thank you for your comment...

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I've just got some figure 9s and struggled with them earlier today, but having come home and watched this I now know what to do! Much appreciated.

I have two larger caribiner versions of this and they are great. Easiest way to secure a rope. I use them with high power suction cups so that I can hook up a tarp to the back of my vehicle. These two items allow me to set it up in less than 2 minutes.

That’s a great idea, which I may well borrow for my T5 😁👍 thank you for your great feedback…

Just tried your method of hanging your tarp, spot on. I use a bowline on one end of the ridgeline and tension the other end with a ferrimond hitch. Thanks for sharing.

I've always loved tying knots. I even instructed 2 levels of Scouts in my earlier life with 1/2" diameter × 6' long sisal ropes, one for each kid. However, at 72, I'm a big fan of the "Nite Ize" products as well. I've collected many of their cord fastening products, just because I'm mechanically minded & appreciate the thought, innovation & functionality of them. Keep up the good content.

Stephen, the carabiners I use on my tarp are just some cheapish ones, dont need to take a lot of weight, just used for guylines. If you use any on the ridgline end points, maybe a little stronger, as it could be under a little more strain...

Clearly those splendid birds want you gone but I'm glad you explained the figure 9 and you so happened to be the no. 1 in KZbin's search function for this item. I bought a slightly different model of the Figure 9 with stainless steel gate springs. Since you mentioned the cold hands in winter scenario your tarp ridge line system could be easily improved upon by using a small carabiner at one end and using one single figure 9 at the other end to provide the tensioning & locking resulting in a whopping (near) 50% reduction of hassle! Some have indicated that the figure 9 teeth are too sharp and might need to be dulled ever so slightly before they damage your lines. Perhaps any metal no-knot tensioning system is bound to degrade your lines to some extent especially compared to conventional knots but I suppose this is more an academic issue since most folks would not pitch their tarps on a daily basis. I am not sure your bed sheet straps/clips or even Coghlan tarp clips are suited to keep your tarp straight in even the gentlest of breezes; I would assume the usual 4-6 guy lines would suffice.

If you like the Figure9 you should try the RopeTie ( by Hitchcraft). It predates the Figure9 and yet it works better. Also it is US made.
