You must use the 3rd hole on the SVEN Saw to achieve depth cuts on larger tree logs🌲

@@unitedstatesirie7431 Good to know, I love the Sven Saw, but just get limited due to the crosspiece even with the extension you have mentioned, the same problem I get with bow saws. So far the Silky is the only one I have not been limited by. Like I said still love my Sven and its great for when I don't need huge rounds!

I have migrated to the Silky Zubat, super tough blade and cuts even better. I love the Silky Pocket Boy 170 and have a leather sheath with extra blades, even a fine cut for bone sawing. It looked like to me you were jabbing the blade in to hard and with a twist. I have broken a blade like that too. You have to take your time on the first few strokes to groove in a straight cut on pull motion. Its not natural for us westerners used to 2 way cutters

Spot on, when I was reviewing the footage I was horrified to see how much angled pressure I was using rather than letting the saw work for me, like you mentioned. I was super fatigued at this point too, I was doing a shelter survival night at the same time and was super shaky! Yes it is different and has taken a bit to learn technique. I will have to check out the zubat, I picked up a Katanaboy650 and it is nuts!

Got tured of replacing broken blades on my opinel saw so I bought the sven. Excellent saw. This video reminds of of this swiss army knife i had as a kid that had a 3" or so saw blade on it. Wasnt particularly agressive or sharp. Many hours were spent trying to cut through 5" thick hardwoods with that saw.

I have definitely become a silky fan and went all out and bought the Katanaboy 650, it is crazy long.. great for winter! Haha I had a big ol swiss army as well and remember trying to carve and use the saw as well… it was all I knew at the time!

I've had my 21" Sven Saw for around 40 years and just replaced the blade a few years ago. Drilling a hole in the ear of the wingnut and attaching a lanyard (orange) keeps it from ever getting lost in the woods which is most people's gripe! Great saw and packs down like nobody's business!

Nice! By far the easiest and lightest saw to pack!

Silky. Mixed.feelings. I had a Nata brought back from Japan for me. Went to chop a spruce and that thing bent and chipped like it was made of aluminum! I contacted the company, and they said if I wanted to do anything about it, I'd have to ship it to Japan! That would be very expensive from Canada, so I put it down to experience and will never buy anything other than a saw from them. Rheir customer service is crap, in my experience. But speaking of rheir saws, I find you can't rush the Silky. It's a very deliberate and purposeful pull action. If you do rush it, and put any pressure on the push, you'll snap it, like you did. And I dont think the company can be blamed for that... altho as you can tell, I'm not a fan. I've tried a few saws, including the Bahco and some bow saws. The best is a real life steel bow saw, but of course they're heavy and not packable. Bahco is meh, ok, so the Silky it is. But still, Silky makes me sulky. 😠

That is crazy about the Nata...thought about getting one but that sounds lame! Agree with the outcome of the Silky, I have had no issues with my bigboy but I clearly got crazy with the pocketboy...I was pretty exhausted at that point of filming, after prepping a bunch of wood for the night, so just got sloppy...well real sloppy! Not a big fan of Bahco myself! I would like to try Silky's massive katanaboy someday and see if it really does glide or not.

@@angryowloutdoors I have a katanaboy too! That, and an extra blade, were among the items I had brought back for me. And let me tell you sir, it's a SAW! A silent, slow, muscle-powered chainsaw. Amazing.

Yep. Silky's are awesome but you have to be careful sawing and makiing sure you always have that "locomotive" motion going on, cut on pull only. Even being careful though, I've seriously bent my BigBoy2000 several times. Luckily, it hasn't snapped yet. I've moved over to the collapsible bow saw style. Agawa Boreal. Much more comfortable and natural hand position too. The Silky's cut quick but wear you out FAST if you have a lot of cuts to make.

Totally agree, the Bigboy has been through some crazy stuff and temps and sloppiness on my part and done great. Clearly in this vid the pocketboy break was all my doing....looking at the footage I was pretty impressed with the force it took to break it...I was just beat from prepping for the night prior to this footage and was all over the place. Curious about the Boreal, might be my next purchase then again I really want to try the Katanaboy out!

@angryowloutdoors Both are great saws. I just found out for me, I get tired much faster with the Silkies, even if I two-hand them. That said, if I don't have plans for tons of sawing, I'll bring the Silky. But if I'm trying to build a major structure or put up enough firewood for a long winter night...Boreal 21/24 for sure.

Nice, I might have to drop some cash on the Boreal this season and give it a go.
