A superb example of a great night out - when someone asks what I do on a winter night in middle of a forest, I will show them this video which, wishfully, introduces them to your outstanding channel/mission. The abundance of wild venison and the impediments preventing its wider consumption is a problem that I am hopeful will be solved through greater advocacy and education - farmed venison is not a suitable solution and will not support forest restoration. All of your videos are bangers and I always stick around for Forest Thoughts. Stay on the unstructured and unplanned path, it truly makes for engaging, thoughtful, and inspirational videos.

Have a Christmas pint on me Sam. Keep doing what you're doing. Your videos are so honest, informative and educational. Let them flow naturally. I find some other channels seem to lose something integral when they set in stone dates and times for posts, they sometimes come across as a chore, lacking in spontaneity and enjoyment. We get something from your videos because you are being 100% in the environment and the moment. Keep up the good work pal.

Aye Sam, I’ll say it’s your channel that’s made me appreciate more aspects of the outdoors such as the native ecosystem, current pressures etc as opposed to just bagging summits etc. KZbin is a funny one, a more regular schedule can make content a little forced sometimes? I feel for myself I prefer filming when I’m up for it rather than feeling I need to upload for the sake of it! Probably damages “growth” but end of the day it’s a hobby!
@HighlandWoodsmanАй бұрын
Thank you - appreciate that. And yes you're right it almost comes down to a choice between maintaining the enjoyment / hobby or deciding to head down more of part-time job route I feel. But you risk sucking all the enjoyment out of it! All the best for 2025!

Love your videos, I go deer stalking in Moray for roe. I only shoot when my freezer is running empty! Best meat and so healthy. Its alot of effort, but definitely worth it. Keep the videos coming as love seeing the Scottish landscape that you explore. 👌👌

Thanks so much for watching and that's great to hear about the roe stalking. I wish more people had the opportunity to access this kind of thing to fill their own freezers and help manage the population for everyone's benefit.

Sam, Another spot on video. If that's the quality that you can hit without a plan then you've nothing to worry about. For me this stuff is spot on. Camping "hook" and then genuinely informative educational "strike". It's one of my two favourite Channels the other being quite different and wooden boat related. Have a good break. C

Kusk is super legit. I hope he finds your channel lol. Dope video as always! PS: Stated before, but worth repeating: this is a very underrated channel. I think it has very large potential to blow up, the only ingredient is more of these excellent bushcraft videos with Darach (when he's able). Also, have you considered making a separate channel for "Forest thoughts"? Could be cool to have one channel dedicated to the bushcraft content, and a separate dedicated to forestry. Final thought: Scotland is a highly desirable tourist destination, at least in North America, and a region which many even English speakers know very little about, but would like to learn more. This is an untapped niche as of yet and your channel could definitely fill that. Have a good one, man!
@HighlandWoodsmanАй бұрын
Thanks so much! I've considered all sorts of formats for the forest thoughts but there doesn't appear to be a majority preference. A separate channel would just be too much work for me right now. It definitely makes sense if I was at the level where I was making some kind of income from creating this content but I couldn't be further away from that if I tried 😂 I don't really get many views on this channel, always seem to hit a wall around 2000 views so splitting them across two channels probably isn't worth the hassle. Thanks again for watching and all the best for 2025.

I've bookmarked those Venison sites, the Arkaig burgers look very good, only over the hill from us in Glenfinnan. I'm heading east in my campervan xmas eve, was planning a Dalwhinne trip ( & stone lifting ) but the weather is utter shite over here so a few hills earmarked Wed & Thur as it looks more settled then home . Have a good one kiddo whatever you have planned.

Love watching others out wild camping but especially when it's someone local'ish to me. Also love a bit of wild venison although in the New Year I'll be going whole food plant based for my health. Have a braw Christmas and a happy New Year.
@HighlandWoodsmanАй бұрын
Many thanks for your continued support Davie. It's an interesting point to consider too that a lot of people find it expensive because they have a diet with such a high meat content. Perhaps cutting back to smaller amounts of quality meat and more plant based would be a more sustainable option. All the best for 2025!

Hey there. This was a great camp and great shares. That stew looked amazing! I live in New England and there are folks here that don’t believe bowhunters should be allowed into the woodsy state and conservation lands to hunt deer. Without saying where… I’ll just say I live near a very large population center and deer strikes on the highway while people are racing to work are going up and deer tick populations are on the rise too because we no longer get those sustained super cold periods in the winter anymore. So I’ve always been a supporter of the hunt as long as you are a good shot, the animal doesn’t suffer and you can dispatch it quickly. It’s the hunters that come back and laugh at how they shot it and it left a blood trail but they couldn’t find it! Those are the ones that …. I can’t say here…. But anyway… you catch my drift. No hammock on this one? Do you go out in the hammock in winter? I’m trying to figure out if I can use my ddhammock setup with just a blue pad in winter. Everything I read and see says to just get the underblanket. Just wondering if you had any thoughts on that. Once again it was great to see you and the pooch again and we’ll catch you in the next one. Happy New Year!! NQU
@HighlandWoodsmanАй бұрын
I wish we had more people engaged in genuine hunting here and implement a public system. Give people access to the land and their own food. Bow hunting is actually illegal here but yes respect for the animal and its welfare should be the most important thing. I have had the hammock out in Winter before, I would probably use it more if I didn't have the dog with me. It's often just really wet here during winter so lying in a hammock with a big wet dog doesn't always appeal 😂 All the best for 2025.
@George-gg1nyАй бұрын
Regarding the wild venison, perhaps supporting the farmers revolt who are organising organic farm shops and talking about farmer markets to sell there produce as they are finished with the supermarkets. See ( Bowler hat farmer chanell ) has his web site, to list any quality food shops regarding meat or dairy. The farm shops could purchase wild venison and sell it on, they want to stop importing our food and keep it British. Win win for the country and people, just a forest thought 😊
@HighlandWoodsmanАй бұрын
I would go a step further and say if we had more woodland integrated with farming they could sell their own venison too! But yes local farm shops would be a great outlet for this kind of thing especially if they are already well known.

I was just looking at the views and likes. Shame more people do not like. I wonder if putting forrest thoughts at the end of the videos is the best idea? If people don't watch tnem but enjoy the rest of the video it will hurt your algorithm. I watch them separately.
