Thanks for the very informative, pre-field-testing review. Due, in part, to your positive perceptions of the blade, I ordered two of them. Although I've yet to field-test it myself, I'm very happy with the purchase. I rigged up an over-the-shoulder baldric arrangement (with vertical carry position & leg-tie) so that the weight isn't on the belt - and I'm also happy with that. As a lefty, I was glad that, by simply turning over the plastic insert (after dislodging the glue-spot) the sheath is, for all practical purposes, ambidextrous. The only additional mod required would be to shift the lower velcro restainer strap a bit sideways (or perhaps rig up something with a cinch and paracord run through the two grommets that are set just above the strap). So, as is, it is not a perfectly ambidextrous sheath but, with a little ingenuity, it certainly can become so. I am really impressed with the design elements which Mr. Fury incorporated into this blade. There are now a number of blade-heavy offerings out there, but this one seemed to me to be just right - in blade length, weight, angle, curvature, etc.

Have owned a kabar kukri for atleast a decade and i am very tempted to pick up this one. After taking mine out the first time i was very impressed with the design. The inward curve of the heavy blade, it chops better than an axe the same size. The only problem is its size, its alittle too large for me. i would love to get something quality that chops as well just in a slightly smaller package.

Guys if you're interested in one directly from myself (the designer of the knife), you can drop an email to L.V.I. directly. I am still doing custom Fully Convexed Bushcrafter Kukuri knives. The one Darren has here is a regular one. Thanks Funky, and thank you to all the viewers. All the best from New England, USA

I love this knife. I think if I was in a reck or survival situation I would be searching for the bag that was carrying that baby. I do agree with some of your other subscribers about only having one knife but hay we don't always have that choice. Sometimes you have to move fast and selvage what is at hand and you can't carry blades with you on planes so if you lose ya bag you've lost all your knives. I love the shape. It reminds me of some of the old agricultural blades that were used for hedge laying with it ergonomically grip and curve. I should imagine it could be used for hrs before you get tiered. Great for shelter building and jobs around the fire. Cheers Funky.

its just a personal thing really. the thoughts the designer and me share are the same. the ideal for us is bare minimum survival 1 knife and a small kit in the sheath - thats it. no saw, axe, smaller knife as well etc etc. its ideal would be a pilot (minimal room in the cockpit for gear) so 1 knife should get him by for some time util rescue etc. the design is based on a classic with more additions. cant wait to see how versatile it really is. cheers buddy ;)

Good presentation, that's a very cool tool for the intended use. There are so many ways to use it, e.g. if You keep the handle under Your ellbow and the edge upwards You can use it very fine for outdoor kitchen tasks like cutting vegetables etc. Looks very tough, and for pulling and pushing and chopping etc. as shown it is perfect, for sure. But on the other side, it comes in a high price range, and I cannot make out what is the functional advantage (for me) compared to one of my common handmade billhooks, which I can get here around for say 20$ (for a good quality piece). Except that this wonderful tool here comes with a sheath, and for simple billhooks I have to figure out myself how to transport. (Well, also not such a big problem - usually I put simply a piece of a garden hose over the edge, fixed with some ranger bands, and keep the hole thing either in the rucksack or simply in my belt.) thanks for showing, rgds, Robert
@funkyprepper10 жыл бұрын
good points made robert. the important thing to remember is quality and choice you can but a knife from $1 to $10000 - there is something for everyone long may choice continue i say :) cheers for your comment
@bangalorebobbel10 жыл бұрын
oh yes absolutely true, choice and quality! well, and of course: availability, and habits ;-) means, while You guys there in Europe (and US) have the full choice, we poor Indians have no proper direct access to such modern high tech remakes of good old asian tools ;-))) but at least the habit point fits well to my location: I am used since childhood to use a billhook, and here are plenty of them ... ;-) For sure there are specific functional differences between different tools, let me say for example between kukri, parang, machete, and billhook - but what I want to find out is which are the relevant differences? What can one tool do better than another one? What would be the best type of tool for, say, staying a week in a non-combat situation in any forest? Or in a jungle? Or what would be the best in a combat situation? In a survival situation in a desert, a jungle, or grass land? Or for camping? That's what I meant that I cannot make out a functional advantage for my situation (what means more or less simple bushcraft, survival, camping, gardening but no combat situation) of such a kukri compared to one of my simple billhooks. For some tasks I would even say, a billhook is more practical in my case. But that question was not meant as saying anything against kukris, I know them and love them. Also not anything against the price - maybe there are also high tech billhooks for that rate. What I see here is a tool which comes in a sheath, and except that sheath I cannot make out any advantage compared another tool, that's the point. So, it was meant seriously: do You know any practical, functional advantages of kukris compared to billhooks? Besides a possible advantage in combat situations - in which I never will come, hopefully ... ;-) cheers ;-)

I had just bought brand new a BK2, and ran across your video of you actually using the kukuri 7. What can I say, it was love at first sight. Comes with a top notch sheath, and micarta handles right out of the box. No upgrades needed. I didn't feel that way about the BK2. Could not live with that sheath! I did not get a good deal on the Becker compared to what others paid, but i did get a good deal on the kukuri 7. Took back the BK2. Cool knife, but I can't afford both at this time, plus I already have a K.O.A Bushcamp and Cub bear combo which I'm happy with, so the Becker was a bit redundant. This however is a bit different and more of a justifyable purchase. Should arrive in two days. Can't wait!

Hi Funky, i see how this knife would come into its own in the bush and combat. Having said that, is it over kill for the British countryside? or is this tool taking the place of your hand axe as well as general dogs body blade, gutting, peg making and so forth. I love it by the way, the size and style is perfect for a chest rig. Nice vid as always.

I personally would strip the black off the cutting bevel and leave it on the blades sides. But again...thats just my personal taste. I believe that the black near/on the edge causes friction when in use. Nice kit tho mate.
@funkyprepper10 жыл бұрын
good points rob, i used to think coating was shit until my mantis scott made me got covered in rust in 24hrs in 98% humidity when skinning two rabbits. now i like the idea of coating. after heavy use the coating on tops knives looses its traction and goes almost to a dull sheen making it smooth and friction free. i found this with my steel eagle 111a. then again if you were to remove the coating on the secondary bevel. 1 - it would look cool as hell 2 - you would have to constantly have to keep in clean and oiled in the field. thanks for your comment rob - good to see you on yt again bro

thanx for the review.i still think the mod knife is a better all around knife if youre gonna go the "bulky" way. thats just mho tho. having the kabar kukri as well as a nepalese one,i think that the kukri is good for use in the jungle.europeans need something more suited for our type of woods.i used to carry bulky knives untill a long time ago when i realised that you dont realy need a huge knife.i prefer a small bushcraft knife,paired with an axe. unless were talking combat scenarios...

What can I say Funky... Good, thorough appraisal of the piece. I Quite like the sheath... :)... sorry mate , had too didn't I. For £155 quid you could get a dogs bollox genuine model. I have hefted loads of Kukhuri clones and never met one that would seduce me away from the genuine item. Now , sheaths, thats a different issue. The original kuk'sheaths can be a total pain in the arse, or even leg if you crouch fast and a carelessly stowed scabbard stabs you in the calf.. That kukhuri of yours is a Sirupate, ( sirr-ooo-patty ) based on a leaf shape native to Nepal. It is much finer and slimmer than a traditional combat or village kukhuri. If you got a bigger bellied pattern , like a village ang khola or what is often called a Bhojpore/Bhojpure these days , they would reflect all the dimensions of the test piece, except maybe for the sharp angle of spine down turn. Especially the feature of the belly striking before the hand/knuckles are anywhere near accidental impacts. Lee was right about all he said, wouldn't contradict the bloke, certainly knows his stuff, but I can't really see anything do'able that an original wouldn't do... A line of tac' or leather ,flat , load carrying sheaths for traditional kukris would interest me more. But hey ... as we know , I am damned , damned, and thrice damned , biased :) Mind you ... I am very interested to see what a DorsetBlades/WessexBlades kukri collab turns out like... atb :)
@Dustypilgrim110 жыл бұрын
and that's fine. All power to you . I stated outright I was mega-biased. For anyone to say 'they designed a better option' than many traditional kukhuris is , in my mind, rather OTT, to say the least. Similarly , there are many more tactical looking takes on traditional Kukhuris on the Nepalese fuelled market . Giving something back to that country, its markets ,and its people has always been one of my personal 'obssessions' . That is a major reason why I have alwatys favoured Nepalese made work. When I sold them I only stocked genuine gear as a matter of principle . Again MY bias, not the law, not the way for everyone. It was just something I preferred. I have had similar issues raised by fans of the cold steel gear when I have said it is real kukhuris that would be my full on preference. Equally, the sharp angle on the spine is not a feature I like . I find it extremely, visually off-putting, and feel it wrecks the grace of the arcing form of the kukhuri., and all it offers can be matched by full belly kukhuris anyway. That spine angle is , sadly, a feature of many of the less attractive cheaper knock-off , Indian or Pakistani, kukhuris. That is probably why I dislike the look of sharper angled ones. I imagine that iof I ever get anywhere with making blades I will have a go at a kukhuri/kukri clone... I fully understand why people do it. Sorry if you're not happy with what I said, but I avoided being scathing about it , and didn't set out to offend you or piss you off. I am sure many will love it. My post was all about stating it wasn't realy for me . There was no malice or negative intent in it. Just honest opinion on how the knife came over to me, someone who has owned and handled kukhuris for best part of fifty years.. If you read it I even took the piss put of myself while I was writing it. It was an honest opinion of a new 'blade', delivered in a light hearted manner that set out to make fun of myself and my bladed'preferences , which 'funky knows all about. . Sorry if it seemd I was having a pop mate, but everyone can't like them all. Also sorry if you felt I was being a bastard about your work. I wasn't. If you made it yourself it's a fine piece of work, very fine , and better than anything I could do. But, as said... not for me , and not at £155'ish...( I suppose it might even be more in the UK as that's a dollar price conversion on a price that was stated by someone else.) Again, apology if you thought I was havin a go. I wasn't. Just a big fan of all things 'Kukhuri' being honst, and in a light hearted way. Best of luck with the blade... atb
@Dustypilgrim110 жыл бұрын
I didn't set out to rubbish the knife or your work. All I stated was that it wasn't for me. As for the 'don't knock it without trying it.' ... I wouldn't dream of spending that kind of money on anything I did not feel sure I liked. As I said I know many many knife'men , and women , will loveit. I also accept it is probably extremely good quality work. But, it is not to my pesonal taste. I might l;ean more towards a 'tarcker' style if I was laying out on a tactical piece. BTW... the crown doesn't levy taxes and shipping. US Import duties and sales taxes, even state taxes work when gear travels the other way. When I sold kukris those I shipped to the states, and daft as it sounds to Nepal via the US got crusified by transit charges and import duties. atb. I think we just need to agree to differ... You know if everyone liked the same thing there'd only be one knife.... Now that , I would hate. :)
