For some reason, I've always found DCI cymbal line parts to be rather barren. Sure, they're flashy with all their visuals, but the music is mostly just crashes and chokes. I play Cymbals at the college level, and we play a lot more with hi-hats and fusions, sometimes even holding our cymbals for the snares to play as ride cymbals. Though it's not as flashy, I think it provides a much more interesting musical texture.

Cymbals are such a musical instrument, but a lot of their more subtle techniques are tough to integrate into full corps, fortissimo moments, like in this chunk. Check out our first Peep the Sheets episode from this summer to see a lot more variety!
