auto-liked at the bushwacking. yall are awesome. I hope you play nice with her at times. I lost many friends over time due to me being a bit rough(mentally and physically). They all can take it one day, one week, one year, but it wears them off over time. Take care both of ya, enjoy life!

Looked like a good day to be out there. A keyhole shaped fire would let you move just a few coals to cook on. Less chance of burning food.

The moccasin boots you are wearing?? My wife loved them. What kind are they?
@burntlands_backcountry3 күн бұрын
They're from Manitoba mukluk and while they're not really designed for this kind of walking I really like them and they hold up pretty well if you keep them well conditioned. I like them because they have a bit of that "barefoot" feel but if you're not used to it it can feel strange.
@chasjacks93783 күн бұрын
Next time cook the bannock first in butter and thern cook the meat ion grease. Clean pan will make the bannock come out soft and tasty. Adding the cheese inside the bannock is great.
@croakingtoad44723 күн бұрын
Also, looks likes their using a small cast iron pan and had that pan a bit too hot. CI cooking is best done on medium heat, to either get the pan up so it's not directly on teh coals, or sweep out some of the coals so the heat is not so high. I prefer to get the pan off the coals using a few rocks or my mini grate.
@apparitionight3 күн бұрын
@@croakingtoad4472Never use rocks which soak up water for your cooking “tripod”.
@croakingtoad44723 күн бұрын
@@apparitionight I agree , to a certain point. While not great, I have used rocks for many years without incident (but your mileage may vary). Ideally, a strong steel grate bridging two logs (or a lightweight stainless steel grate when using carbon steel) is ideal. I'll often add a wood crafted pot hanger to the set up for my pot (if there is not enough room for both pot and pan on the little grate). I'm not a fan of cooking using a campfire's flame, like you see some bushcrafters doing; the heat is too irregular and I hate having to clean up all that soot off the cookware afterwards. ;-) The only exception is a footed Dutch Oven, which I place over a bed of coals but not directly into the fire itself. The main take away from my comment was to avoid putting your cookware directly on the coals as most often the heat can be too intense and you may end up burning your food.

I have to ask, why a bill hook? I've always thought it would be useful and helpful, but I've never seen anyone carry it. I'm just wondering how it works for you where you are in the world? That one is a Fiskers right? I'm going to look into it. I just started to watch your videos. I always think it's great when I can learn something new.
@burntlands_backcountry3 күн бұрын
It just helps with delimbing. Yes fiskers and it's marketed as a cross between a machete and a hatchet, although its probably not very helpful for splitting wood. I personally really like it and for the price point (which is like $40) it's definitely worth trying out.
@grahamambridge28563 күн бұрын
Some people pull the fire steel and keep the other bit still. Saves pusing your hand in to what you are trying to light.

Thanks for coming back.. That bannock, just flour and water? And those work pants.. What brand are those, all the work and play..they look durable and comfortable. are you going back to the house build in the spring, or is it done?
@burntlands_backcountry4 күн бұрын
It's flour, water, baking powder, salt and sugar. They're fjallraven kebb trousers which are expensive but they are good quality and have a really good warranty. It's not done yet, I will go back there at soke point but I don't know when.
