Bushwakka 270 Extreme Awning - follow up review and Issues (Post Cape York Trip)

just a quick follow up video of my Bushwakka 270 Extreme awning and the issues I have had with it.
hope this provides people with a well rounded source of information on these awnings when buying.
not for everyone buy may suit some.

cheap junk at $1000 , its an industry built on people paying ridiculous prices across the board it costs more than the price of a car to build a canopy for an occasional weekend away. thanks for the real review not just a sales pitch from someone who was donated a product like most of the camping gear reviews

Great review it's good to see people tell the truth. It's ashame you will be out of pocket. I've been also looking at the ochrich wing but now have been informed by tough touring that my motop tent isn't strong enough to carry a free standing awning.. I think I will have to do some more research.

Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback. Anyway of adding a reinforcing plate to the side of the motop RTT to strengthen it? Surely someone has had the same issue before. Hope you get it sorted!

The U beaut (larger 6 arm) and tru blu (smaller )models are Aussie made , the extreme 270 (smaller) and extreme darkness (larger 6arm) models are the Chinese made variants , they also have the endo frame on both Chinese and Aussie larger 6 arm models to stiffen up the mounting backbone.

Thanks for the review. Those rope rachets are available from Bunnings. They come in two sizes. The smaller one comes in a pack of 2s. The larger one in a single pack. I use them for keeping things secure inside my 4WD.

Hey bud, Watched this and I had the first gen (what I said to them must have been the r&d unit) as well, I bought direct from bushwakka and sent by courier. When I emailed the same issues (no washers and rubbing of arm), I asked them to send my a new arm because I didn’t have faith it would last 12months. I received a reply they would send a whole new unit. They sent a complete new awning. I think in your video you said you bought at retailer. I can only suggest go straight to bushwakka. I had a total of six emails and replaced. Hope this helps. My mindset is I worked hard for that $1000…to get unreliable use of it isn’t on.

Hey mate, I purchased direct from Bushwakka, they are the reseller not manufacturer of this unit (this is one of the Chinese units) I contacted them and they offered to send me a washer, they also stated the flex was a result of how I had mounted it, hence I changed it to go above and beyond but the flex remained. I have replaced the bolt and applied Loctite but I have not used it again since. I'll make an excuse to go camping again soon and use it, see how it goes.

I have the same 270 and been on my lux for 1.5 2 years and no problems beside the flexing and sag. I bought 2 extra poles which help. Can't complain about 950 for the price.

Good stuff mate. I didn't buy the extra poles after watching old mate from Bushwakka hang his daughter from the frame when folded out. I wanted it so it didn't require the extra poles 75% of the time. When we take another trip I'll give it another run and see how it performs. Hopefully I get a good run like you!!. Cheers

@@hammer_tongs that video with his daughter on the frame was a model up. I also was disappointed it not been 100% Oz made. Still it has out lasted my xdm one I had that folded up in small wind.

Its handling the breeze well due to the air flowing through the framework if the wind captures on a closed off wall frame that when more risk of flipping the tarp and bending the frame etc. Doesn’t it shit you with poor Chinese stuff why why don’t they just make quality

They have a new one out. The extreme darkness. Built in leds which seems cool, be interesting to see what the wiring is like. $1500 is what it costs. I got a cheap $110 kings standard awning. Does the job had it on apprentice wages haha. Looking for a good 270 free standing awning though, any recommendations on other companies?

I like the look of the Bush company 270 awning. However, have not had first hand experience just yet. Hoping to get my hands on one to take a look in near future as a friend has ordered one. The main frame is a lot beefier looking than the Bushwakka units. Their units start at $1,495 with their top spec being $2,400

their true blue spec looks good, i was tossing between the endo darkness and thee darche which has a 2 yr warranty as opposed to 1

@@brodienunn8638 You will need poles down always on the darche as it's only rhs ally extrusion and not a truss arm , but coverage wise it's similar to the Bushwakka 6 arm models.

Mate probably better off hard framing a corrugated iron fold up or slide out. Least it be solid and last, the amount of shit that is made now days.

How does it go not being supported towards the front of vechile, i have a 1400 canopy n worried they are to long with no support the whole way along

Front is 320mm from end to the mount. It opens and closes fine, don't see any vibration at usual speeds (ie: 110kph) and it has not presented a problem as yet. In saying that, the guys at Bushwakka have since released an updated version to this which I'd suggest would be improved and stronger again.

I've barely used it to be honest. So it spends a lot of time packed up. But the cover is quite good and keeps it in good condition

I’m sorry but it’s night and day on the website that 1 is oz made and 1 is Chinese , it’s explained heavily on the pages , forums , google , KZbin and even has KZbin videos explaining this ,you made a mistake and you picked the cheaper of the 2

No need to apologise my friend. The advertising is VASTLY changed from what was originally posted when I purchased my awning to what is has been over the past 12 months. I ordered along with 3 others in my group who had each looked at the same advertising and taken the same point of view. the only difference was, once we found out it was Chinese, my mistake was I didn't cancel while the other 2 did. (We were informed it was Chinese once the order was delayed and I messaged him to ask why. That was the point in which he specified that in the advertisement it states "Australian Made" then under it in much smaller font was "and overseas model" I'll go through my emails and dig up the screenshots, might make another video of those screenshots to help with context. I initially sent an email around to a bunch of colleagues and received unanimous response, the advertisement on facebook where we seen it was intentionally written to make the 'overseas model' difficult to distinguish.
