Good stuff... Although it is a separate career path, like financial analyst, sometimes I dwell on the idea that BAs should have some core skills in finances and budgeting. It could be useful for transitioning to leadership roles. Also, the other one would be strong domain knowledge that can provide some consultancy roles.

Thanks! And well spotted. Every entry role sticks to the niche skills required to perform critical tasks in that role. Like an IT business analyst, you must create software requirements specifications or product backlogs with user stories by eliciting needs and transforming them into requirements models. If you are a BI engineer, you need to know how to build reports in Power BI, for instance. The same is true for financial analysis, another business analysis perspective - you need to analyze cash flows, different KPIs, etc. However, as soon as you want to go above and beyond to higher-level roles, other skills become essential. Budgeting and financial information may become critical depending on what you want to do. As soon as I became a BA manager, I started dealing with things like recruiting, retention, professional development budgeting, etc. I was still a BA, but this leadership role made me learn many things I was not doing as a BA. So, I agree with you 100%; leadership roles are very different. The more you go up, the less you become a BA - you become something very different. As for domain knowledge, I will be making a separate video explaining importance of this underlying competency for BAs, so those who are interested should stick around)
