There are hundreds of thousands of people who never comment, rate or otherwise interact with your videos but keep watching because of your character and your content. You'll always see the vocal minority bashing you for not taking these gambling deals etc, but please keep in mind that we really like you for not taking these kinds of promotions, nor making sneaky product placements or other bad things I can't think of right now. And believe me if I say I hold a much higher opinion of you than many others in the CSGO youtube scene. In the end, money can't buy you reputation. Thanks again and have a good day Philip!

I feel like there's a couple things about annoying fans that stem from KZbin/online. One, KZbinrs often talk as if their fanbase is their "family". While KZbinrs often do care about their audience (if even for a certain amount of them that... Simply care about nothing else other than money), it's impossible to have hundreds of thousands, or millions, of people to be your friends/family and you keep contact with them. It is, quite frankly, impossible. I think it's very difficult to be a fan with someone with countless amounts of fans, and become friends/acquaintances with them without meeting them IRL. I think that's why successful people on this platform often have KZbinr friends. Oftentimes, they can probably talk to each other about the difficult part that most people just don't seem to understand. And unfortunately, you talking with us about these things, I think, makes a lot of people feel like they're "friends" in some way, so they get some sort of special pass. On a side note: I do appreciate your videos talking about these sorts of things! It gives an extra viewpoint on what it's like being a KZbinr, and really sheds light that it isn't always just "record a thing and upload = money". I also do appreciate your views and actions on gambling. I hate gambling, quite frankly. A friend of mine learned his lesson when he lost his AWP Asimov, and I'm glad it was his most prized CS:GO skin rather than a developed lottery or casino habit. You're doing good, in that regard. Two, I don't think most people understand what it's like being a KZbinr, and thusly don't understand that misusing your business email is like calling you while you're at a workplace, on your workphone, to talk about their cat. Even if they're a friend or family, it would still be quite inappropriate.
@Spebby4 жыл бұрын
Channels like this are like a double edge sword. On one hand, it lets the most loyal of your fanbase understand and appreciate you on another level, and you get to pull the curtains away and just, talk. But on the other hand, as you said, it can make people feel like their "friends", it only takes a small number of people to muck everything up. Clearly, the vast majority of people don't mail Philip, but at the same time, enough people do that it causes a problem.

Phil, your turning down gambling ads is what makes you such a great youtuber. It's a mark of your moral strength. I can see how you have trapped yourself, too. As you say, by being so morally grounded, any mistake will draw hate to you. Bear in mind though, that most hateful comments on youtube should not be given much credit, no matter how painfully rude/wrong the commenters are. It is too easy to fall into the trap that positive comments are false, sourced from a twisted idolization of your personality, and negative comments come from the majority. remember that this is NOT TRUE!

From badly designed products that are unusable sold to unsuspecting buyers, to companies like zoom lying about their chats being encrypted, to youtubers promoting gambling to kids, to decisions made by uninformed "people in charge" mainly motivated by money. My point is, anything that is primarily motivated by money is going to be worse that somethibg motivated by pride in ones craft, wanting to improve, wanting to be the best, love and passion for their jobs and genuinely wanting to make the world just a tad bit better by, well... Doing their job properly. The upside is, it's even more validating when you make a decent living without breaking your principles. Glad to hear you read the comments; just wanted to say that I really appreciate your videos. Pretty much everything you post across all channels interests me in some way or another, whether it's CS, game dev, KZbin, technology, or anything else (even if I don't expect it; I've started juggling now because of your videos). I really like how honest and genuine you are with videos like these; the line "look mum, I've made it" really resonated with me in this one. Keep doing what you're doing for as long as you enjoy it :)

Isn't it kind of ironic how most of your videos consist of you choosing a topic you're interested in and or wanting to share something about and then taking every possible point of view on it to evaluate what you're getting from it or how to answer a specific question? I feel you take every step to question yourself, which I btw find very pleasing to watch, but then receive such emails from some of your fans clearly unable to do the same. Your videos always not only make me think about something from the most possible point of views, but also my own probably biased perspective on it. And since I feel you always point out that most of your conclusions are very particular to yourself and not all of your viewers, I will try to make it clear that I could be horribly wrong about what I just wrote. Isn't that great?

Thanks for making videos Philip. During this pandemic I've been on a month-long kliksphilip-bender where I marathon videos from all your channels, many of which I've seen already. Cant help myself, your videos have such a great rewatching value! So thanks for making videos, for all of your channels, I genuinely enjoy them.

I'm certanly verry impressed and admire you for turning down the gambling deals, I can say with 99% certanty that I would've taken them, you made the morally just decisions when the vast majority of people in the same situation would've done otherwise. Love these videos about the management aspects of youtube. It is fascinating to hear about promotions and MCNs from someone who is part of them. It is really eye-opening as well to hear about gambling promotions from the perspective of the youtuber. Even if what these people are doing is wrong, I can't say I wouldn't do the same given the opportunity. Of course, the potential for self-hatred could be enough to drive me away. It is a matter of priorities I guess--money vs. ethics. It reminds me of BIll Gates's situation in a way. He engaged in many anti-consumer, cutthroat business practices as the head of Microsoft, but ultimately put all of that money towards philanthropy. Does the philanthropy justify his cruel action? This is even less cut and dry with these sponsorships as they are taking money from people who the money will make a great difference to. Either way, utmost respect for upholding your principles. In my opinion, the real cowardice is falling for the safety and immediate benefit of profit rather than holding onto moral standards and being respected in the future. I truly sincerely hope that being the good guy works out for you (and everyone who chooses that path).

One thing I've always wondered is how the businesses offering promotions find business emails to offer promotions in the first place. Everyone's email is probably on some sort of data-sharing list but are there ones explicitly for "business?" How much are the list people making off of companies buying lists of emails from them?

crikey, this video seriously struck a chord with me, as i too feel like ive been trying to process the same philosophical debate over self worth recently to some extent. what it boils down to is me thinking anything i do only for myself is masturbatory, but anything i do for others would be perceived as performance, or to inflate ego. nothing is right. or at least, it doesn't sit right within my own mind, because of course i have my own values. there are things i can do that absolutely no one else will recognise as ever happening, but the way it affects me can change the outcome, which circles around yet again to the idea of it affecting only me being masturbatory. its an incredibly viscous debate with seemingly no end, and i cant imagine how many hours you must have spent circling the same thoughts round and round in your head given that you clearly have attention on you and I don't. for what it's worth, everything you said in the video, i wholeheartedly respect, and sympathise with as sometimes it really seems like this form of human contact where your values get contested is so corrosive and toxic that it makes you wonder who the hell is sending you this shite. but then Plato comes in and defines the groundwork of justice for you (how you treat others is how you will be treated in due course) and you meet a junction, a junction of hope that that will happen and that humanity will reach this karmic juncture and thus justice will be served (potentially unbeknownst to you) or that 'that just isn't how life works' and it is a net negative upon you and your psyche. it gets so incredibly convoluted... to the point where it is impossible to justify and it just feels like time wasted whenever you muse over this subject. i realise what i have said right now potentially covers no ground as it ends up coming full circle on itself, however i just hope that you can know, somewhere in a cavern of your personality, that what you do is highly appreciated and the decisions that you take that no one else can see on the surface level ARE appreciated, even if they only bear their fruits in years time. thank you for this video.

Philip has helped me multiple times through comments, he even helped me improve my computer by pointing me to good parts that would fit my setup. Philip truly is outstanding and if there’s any categorization for youtubers by their contact/responsiveness with viewers, he’s at the top. It amazes me how someone spends this much time talking to and helping people who he barely knows, as much as it hurts to say this, I more than likely wouldn’t be able to do that, I wouldn’t be able to respond to everyone or at least most of the people, even with a couple of hundred comments, but he gets thousands and manages to do it... Thank you, Philip, keep it up as always! :)

Imagine being so desperate for attention that you sign strangers up to the BBC. I wonder how many people get BBC registrations from that one troll? lol Thanks for not advertising gambling sites. I don't think you need to feel guilty about that at all: If it's enough money to change your life forever, how many other people's lives would be changed for the worse through gambling addiction? Somehow I doubt it's large amounts of people loosing small amounts of money, rather than the opposite. Being a decent person ain't glamorous, but even if it's just entertainment your videos do improve people's lives. For one thing, I'll never forget that legendary scene of you running around a city with your keyboard. ^_^

I never ended up getting the Spyro Reignited trilogy, I loved the games as a kid but seeing the game get the generic Dreamworks look was a big disappointment. I also felt it would have been a better idea to remake each game one at a time, since then they could spend more time on them and polish them more, and from the looks of the gameplay in your video it looks like it could've done with it. Great video btw, it's honestly amazing how awful people on the internet can be. I upload stuff elsewhere, barely 3 views a day, but I'll always remember the first ever comment I received was 'who hurt you?' and staring at what I'd made for 30 minutes trying to figure out what I'd done to cause that kind of reaction. I then realised the guy was spamming everywhere with all sorts of horrible comments and it wasn't worth thinking about, but negative comments often find a way of being more memorable than positive ones, as sad as that is. Despite being one of the humblest and politest KZbinrs I watch, it's a shame to see even you get targeted by people who just want an excuse to show off how many racial slurs they can cram into a single paragraph. Thanks for giving us another insight into your life, it's always interesting.

I stopped the video to read that reply from the upscaling kid. I hope someday that kid gets a conscience and realizes that spamming edgy words and phrases to someone over the internet under an umbrella of anonymity just makes you look like a fool. I'm sorry you have to deal with people like that, Philip. Also, it's weird seeing the full names of KZbinrs or streamers that all you know them from is a pseudonym. It makes me feel kind of dirty, like I'm watching you in the shower or something. But sometimes I think we forget that even the people we interact with online are human beings with lives outside of this place. If you're reading this fellow viewer, just take a minute to remember that the guy or girl you watch and wait patiently for new content from has other responsibilities and desires outside of their videos. Warowl, Houngoungagne, and 3kliks love what they do but in the end it is a means to an end. They want to sit on their couch at 3 a.m. watching infomercials and eating McDonald's just like the rest of us. They have parents to visit, homes to clean, grocery shopping to do, and more. They are real people, with real lives, and found they can entertain others and live comfortably at the same time. So don't go harassing them because you're still waiting for the next video and it's been longer than usual. Be patient. Be understanding. Support your favorite KZbinrs both financially AND emotionally, and the content that they put out will be the same quality content you subscribed for.

I know a satirical CSGO youtuber who has done these gambling promotions, and promoting those shady sites is kinda fitting to the satirical tone.
