Mr. Robin Shaw, in my country, the last name is not the family name, but it's still the person's name. Is it okay if we use the tittles which is followed by the first name, especially for "ms"?

I am constantly surprised how the modern British world still address women by "Mrs" and men by "Mr" by default in many places! esp in DIY shops. Women often get asked "Miss or Mrs?" when being taken basic details, which is effectively intrusive but I don't mind so much, but calling a woman "Mrs" by default regardless of whether they know their marital status is another thing! It is old-fashioned considering "Ms" was introduced in the 1960s.. everyone should be familiar with it by now. It looks like "Mx" will have a long way to go, hopefully not as long as "Ms" does which the modern British world still seems to be struggling with after 50 years.. Worryingly, the people are often offended when being corrected.

@ShawEnglishOnline
@ShawEnglishOnline 6 жыл бұрын
You are a little confused. There are 2 kinds of miss. 1. Miss - Title - Miss Smith. 2. miss - just a young girl - "Excuse me, miss." Ms. is pronounced [mizz]. That is not miss.

Formal titles! I have seen such english lessons.always about 'Mr,Mrs,Miss,Ms,Dr,Rev,Prof'! Obviously ,people who can listen to your english at least know about such titles,trust me! What about 'my excellency, your highness, your majesty '? Arent they formal titles? So boring! I'm sure that people who can listen to a native speaker like this need not such basic vocubulary. Improve ! This is just my suggestion!
@ShawEnglishOnline
@ShawEnglishOnline 5 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of students who do not know basic titles. You may be at a higher level and of course desire a more advanced level of English lessons. Most people will never use "excellency, your highness, your majesty" so we don't focus on them.
@tinmaunghla648
@tinmaunghla648 5 жыл бұрын
Trust me, even pre middle school students know basic titles because these titles are very commonly used in english movies.Non-native Kids use these titles when they play with each other occasionally.But when we try to read news papers and some english interviews, suddenly we got stuck!With all respect, I would point out that if one is able to understand what you are saying by listening, it is actually very obvious that they no longer need to learn basic titles.I mean not just your videos, I have seen many english video lessons but, the one thing they all lack is the idea that if we non-native can comprehend their videos by using own ears,we no longer need to learn such basic things because we are already past that level, otherwise, it would be a real waste of time for both of you and us.

I m also very aware of people around and that's what I ve found out.It's ok if you don't believe.I am just presenting my suggestion for the sake of not just learners but for the sake of educators as well because we are all involved in this.We need educators who are aware of what we really need, if not, sorry to say , merely a waste of time and Time is precious.We can't spend a lifetime learning a language.We have to do more than this.
