I feel like there's one big thing holding back your channel. Your titles are all optimized for the algorithm/recommendation/clickbait and it makes it impossible to find specific videos to share. A huge chunk of the videos have the same clickbaity titles "This destroys your youtube videos" "Big mistakes a youtuber must stop making" "This stops 90% of youtubers from getting more views". I would have to look through dozens of videos to find the exact video I was looking to share. All the best, Sunwoo

Yeah, absolutely. Clickbait works for snagging views to some extent, but as a viewer I'm not likely to find this content when actively searching. Like, for this video, I only opened it because I'm on lunch break and had nothing else specific lined up in my view queue.

It is not true that having that having a good thumbnail and storyline will help the video. Your examples are caucasian skewed, you have not obviously seen asian you tubers namely from japan and korea who do not have storyline in their silent vlogs, they just go about and cook, eat, cook some more, eat...(em iffy, Nami, plan D) or make coffee and read (Nao) there is no storyline whatsoever and the thumbnail is not anything out of the ordinary. Yet they get an insane amount of views, even more than most of the better shot videos with a proper storyline. So this goes against the basis of what u just said. You Tube and its audience is still a big mystery. Would u like to review these asian silent vloggers and give us your thoughts on why they get so much views for no idea, mediocre thumbnails and no storyline? I would love to watch your take on it!

This is a good question. Are there loyal audiences for particular channels that like that KZbinr's style? Or do people pick videos depending on their mood i.e. thirsty for coffee?
@sarahc.5191
@sarahc.5191 2 жыл бұрын
@@unclemick-synths i wish i knew! I am always curious. I guess for most people who watch vlogs, they prob click out of curiosity and then become a loyal if their style resonates with them. I wished i knew why they click because some of the thumbnails don't look interesting and the titles are very vague like "Even though you didn't wake up early, today is good"...no seo, nothing. Thumbnail is just a girl sitting on table writing. but such a title can get 2.6 million views! Interesting right?

I understand why you make your videos for people with a goldfish attention span, but it does become very distracting when I'm legit trying to learn something. Don't get me wrong.. the visual effects, sound effects, editing and all that is great, it just conflicts with the point of the video which is to teach and not dazzle to the point of distraction.

@timdanyo898

@@DeniseTheCakeVlogger What I've found is that once you have an audience of learners established there is more room to let off the attention getting gas peddle and simply present the material in an interesting way that holds attention, but isn't in the "grab attention" mindset. For instance.. as a filmmaker I'll watch someone review a new camera all the way through with simple cuts and fades to static on screen graphics. I think a lot of KZbinrs are so bent on getting new viewers through attention grabbing and sensational topics that the seasoned legit learners who are there for the long haul get overlooked. imho

@@timdanyo898 I agree. I think Ed did fantastic here overall with the production quality and efforts into story etc...deserves all the praise in the world, but I do think there is something to be said for presenting with a talking head and some occasional graphics to help drive home a point. Almost everything in life typically reverts back to "keep it simple" and I think there is an inverse relationship between topic density and presentation. The more dense the topic, the more simple the presentation should be to follow along and absorb it. This concept is actually fairly dense and could be expanded on for a 2 hour seminar truthfully. It took my brain a couple rewinds to gather what was going on fully I don't want to tear down Ed at all because I genuinely dig the effort and various approaches he takes at innovating in this genre...its truly inspiring. At the same time, there are some things to consider

You are one of the few creators where I watch your entire video. Great work. Ha! I loved the uncrossed legs bit 😂 I got very interested with the Streets of Rage part as I run a gaming channel (8,000 subs and 500k views a month). Like you mentioned, focusing on a problem and offering a solution makes sense and indeed those are my only style of vids that do ok. However key for small channels is you need to find a searched for term that has few or no current answers. That is hard to find. As for vids with random unsearched titles like the garlic bread to space one, I get it’s an interesting title, but surely this requires a strong subscriber base to work or some well placed sharing on reddit, etc? For example, Mr Beast could write any title and the vid would still get millions of views as he has a huge sub base. But put that same vid on a new channel and it would surely fail unless shared and seen elsewhere? I suppose what I’m suggesting here is vary your strategy depending on your channel size and capabilities.

I like that Ed talks about Tom Scott because I’ve been wanting to say how similar they look, when I first found Film Booth I thought it WAS Tom Scott
