A little story about the Cup Noodle the video didn't mention: in 1972, the Asama-Sansō incident (a hostage crisis/police stakeout) happened in the mountains and it was widely broadcast around Japan with very high viewership. Because all the food froze quickly when they are taken up to the mountains, the cops relied on Cup Noodles which can be eaten with boiling water from kettles, which popularised the product.

Thanks for introducing the story to English speaking world. What wasn’t mentioned in the video: Mr. Ando 安藤さん was originally from Taiwan named Baifu Wu 吳百福, born during Japanese colonization. He moved to Japan in his early 20s. After World War II, he changed his last name to Ando and then regained Japanese nationality. Ando was his third wife’s last name. It was not widely known but controversial whether Mr. Ando was really the inventor of instant noodles. Two other Taiwanese origins, acquaintances of Mr. Ando’s, claimed they were the inventors. Every one of them obtained patents about the same time. Apparently Mr. Ando was the smart one who successfully marketing it.

Ah, good ole cup noodle and instant ramen. One of my favorite things as a kid to have. Growing up in a lower middle class Hispanic family with parents always working, they had to make every dollar count when it came to food and it was very easy to get boxes of cup noodles for very cheap. Easy little snack/meal for the boys that didn't require any cooking, just dump the water in and 3 mins in the microwave. Even after all these years, I still quite love instant noodles and enjoy them for either lunch at work or something quick to have at home

When crap got the fan in 2008 me and my family ate noodles to stay alive. They were affordable and high in calories. Thank you sir for inventing instant ramen. I’m sorry it took nuclear weapons and starving Japanese for them to come about but I’m sure the world thanks you. 🍜🍜

There was a small ad campaign for Top Ramen in India. It is not the most famous brand but food enthusiasts know that Nissin it the best. Currently Maggi by Nestle has the near monopoly on Indian noodle market

I ate it everyday during my childhood. I got so sick of it though lol. I would put sour cream and hot sauce to change up the flavor. I still enjoy them randomly from time to time, but I'm so happy I don't have to eat them everyday anymore.

My God... as long as i remember, i already eat instant noodles as toddler, just about once or twice a week... Then after i start went to primary school, my breakfast are usually instant noodles with some rice, sometimes with egg, and i eat noodles practically 5 packs a week... In my teenage days, i eat more noodles, 2 packs at once, sometimes with rice or/and eggs... sometimes i eat noodles twice a day... it already about 10-15 packs per week.. In my college days, literally no day without at least 1 pack of noodles... sometimes just for snack and eat the noodles dry, without cooking it... i easily eat about 15-20 packs a week... in my 20s, this is the peak of my noodles consumption, since now i usually eat 3 packs in one serving, and my personal record is 5 packs, plus 2 eggs... i even try to mix the flavor, i eat 3 packs of noodles with 3 different flavors, and somehow still delicious... i eat about 20-25 packs a week... and now in my 30s, my consumption decline, because i already married in this time, and have a wife too cook me more healthy food... but still i consumed about 5 to 10 packs per week... Now i'm 37 y.o, and estimated has eat at least 20.000 packs of instant noodles... 1.5 packs per day on average... still healthy, and thanks God now there is much more interesting new brands and flavors than ever... 😁

I love instant noodles and I add carrots, frozen peas, corn, etc. while boiling the water. I also add hard boiled eggs which make them more delicious as well as nutritious.

Never liked eggs in ramen. I'd put cabbage, tomatoes peas and thai chillie peppers in mine, with a but of seasoning too. I've done corn before as well.
@kurroth2 жыл бұрын
@@shawnjavery Nice, I don't like potato or cauliflower in ramen. I prefer boiled eggs as it is easy to make and in India it popular to add spicy scrambled eggs or any other type in some places. Also, I like ramen dry, I only use half the recommended water as it feels spicier IMHO and firmer.

The first time I ate ramen was probably when I was about 4-5. I remembered it clearly because my parents had to work and they dropped me off at my great-grandma's. It was lunch and I was hungry, but my great-grandma didn't have anything to cook. So she boiled some water and teached me how to cook an instant noodle. It was the first time I ever tried something like that, and I love it.... now it's a staple food for me as a broke college student xD

Makes me respect the humble instant ramen cup a whole lot more since I started eating it at six years old. Much respect for Ando-san’s ideals! 🫡 🍜 Question for viewers: Is there an international noodle/ramen day? And how do we go about naming a day for top ramen?
