In California, where the domestically produced avocados are grown, the price can fluctuate wildly between seasons. When it's peak harvest time, and nearly-ripe fruits need to head to a nearby market for sale before they can go bad, the price will often drop lower than the price of apples, but in the off-season they can cost $2 each. It's kind crazy, though I suppose it makes sense from a supply-chain perspective.

I am 63 yrs old and have been eating avocado since I was able to eat solid food, and presently I eat one every day for breakfast. I do it not because it is good for me but because I love it. TIP: contrary to what the video says, buy only green hard avocados as ripe ones in the store are usually already starting to rot. I usually buy 5 at a time and leave them on a tray on the counter. After 3 days they start to ripen and they usually ripen at different rates so I just pick the most ripe one first. Also we sometimes get 10 or so to make our own guacamole recipe, which disappears in about 15 minutes.

@@ethanrios1010 yeah this isn't entirely true. some avocado trees planted from seed do produce fruit after like 8 years of growing, and for a big mature tree , the first harvest will be 1 to 5 avocados, but for the next harvests one wouldn't bother to count. Source: we have a single ungrafted avocado tree in our backyard (what i've described above) that produces big, high quality and probably the sweetest avocados i've ever had (if harvested at the right time).... i would understand if you think i'm exaggerating because random person in the internet, but i'm not. :)

From Australia in June 2022, for perhaps the last year we have been able to purchase avocados for on average $A1.00 each. A glut during that period, a loss of a market to other countries, and the closure due to Covid of cafes, were I think the main contributory factors. It has been for us, on a modest budget, a breakfast staple throughout that time.

What I saw on the comments is what you just wanted to hear : "avocado is a super food and it is for people that have a confortable lifestyle". I am so sad that marketing can make you so blind, avocado, soy, bananas, etc, "food marketing" is a disaster. Eat locally, balanced, help the small industries/producers, go to the market, eat good, no gma, i promise you, you'll have all you need to be healthy, strong, thin and whatever you desire to be. I've been to america for two months and i gained around 10kg (22pds) eating the same than in France, fruits, veggies, meat, bread, wtf ?? I was cooking for myself with fresh products. Gmo ?? What was in your food ? I don't know what it was but I am sure you're overconsuming all the time, in terms of objects, food, AC, informations, politics, energy, medicines, and the worst is that you are not even aware of that. Except a bunch of you guys may be, which were really balanced and aware and interesting.. It is ok to be different and have you're own way of thinking, what I saw in north america (US and Canada) was mainly clones. Same conversation, same spirit, same house, same diet, same dog, same cars, same voice (vocal fry), same everything. I had the feeling that, eitherway you eat to much meat, or, you don't eat some at all. No balance, no "once a week" is tolerated. It is left or right, not in between. I just had some canadians&americans in my airbnb last week, they were really cute at first sight, they were also saying blablabla that they cared about environment whatever : AC was on, day and night 17°C (cold), all lights on (10 to 15 lights in the apartment) when they went out, a disaster, no respect. And then, they speak to us about the planet health and they hug you for getting a good comment on the platform. Hahahaha, for god sake, stop being so hypocrite. Just live your life, slowly, nicely, practice the sport that makes you happy (not proteins shits) and stop trusting everything companies, influencers and medias say to you on medias and socials. What you thing is the best way to consume, is what they just put on your mind for decades. Trust your body, you are allowed to have a different opinion and to think for yourself.

Actually GMO s can help in the bannana industry scince bananas are infertile anyway and the current Cavendish variety is being hit by a Panama disease (TR4) epidemic. But there is a gmo variety that has resistance to it, its the exact same but resistant to Panama disease and because bananas are an infertile fruit, the Gmo tree cannot spread its genes. "Humans are scared of what they do not understand" This phrase is a good way to describe GMO's Other than that, i agree with what you've said.

Avocados are cheap here in the tropics because they kinda grow like weeds, no human intervention needed. In the West though, you can maybe grow one but it probably won't bear fruit. The same can be said of raspberries and blueberries, they're hella expensive here in South East Asia because the weather doesn't suit the growing conditions that they need. Blueberries cost like $8 a kilo in the US give or take, here in SEA they cost $8 per 200grams

Which variety? Hass is always expensive, same as every variety without "strings" and creamy, the watery or fibrous ones are cheap everywhere.

Maybe because I live in San Diego, which borders Mexico where they are heavily produced , but I find them less expensive compared to 20 years ago... My local Aldi sells them sometimes as low as 50 cents each... but I usually pay about $1 - $1.25 each... about the same price as 2 decades ago...

@@jib1823 IDK in other asian countries but here in the Philippines you can say it's quiet abundant. Though it's not like you'd see it anywhere nor could you buy it any time of the year but it's also not that rare to buy one this expensive. I think you can buy a kilo or two here without spending more than 3$ depending on which area you're buying it

That has been the problem for decades people follow fads if everyone lernt to eat in moderation and a variety of foods they all would be living a healthier life, remember years ago butter was bad for us then they say we should eat a little butter then it was steak, then dairy anything in excess is bad for us so again moderation is the name of the game, from what I have seen on youtube and other media platforms america has a real problem with portion sizes bigger is not always better, cheese in an aerosol can sorry I find that disgusting and is it real cheese and orange cheese whats that about?

Many times the man wants to force a tree or plant to grow in the wrong place, producing a lot of work and money consumption, this is what happened in California. As a Mexican that I am, I remember that we ate cutting them from the tree and put them in a freshly made tortilla and salt and it was a delight. I remember that Trump stopped a shipment of avocados to the USA at the border and Japan reacted and said: I want them all.
