Historical fact : Red High Heels were already a thing before Louboutin. It was a must for the noblemen in Europe around the 15th century(back when high heels was only for men, it was a masculine fashion piece). The glossy red-soled shoes showed they never worked because it was clean and it was red because they represent the blood of their enemy crushed in battle. Louis XIV was very fond of shoes with red heels. And no man could have a heel higher than the king. Bright red was also a rare color on clothes, so having red-heels meant a nobleman was very wealthy, powerful in war and never worked at all (so even more rich).

That actually makes sense. Higher quality at a high production is really expensive. So the product costs more. It's usually cheap items that are made using slave labor, harmful materials, unethical practices and such. However, there are many instances where you are literally just paying for a label and it tends to show in the quality (take the newer Louis Vuitton bags for instance, the quality has gone down a lot but prices remain the same due to the name). Christian Louboutin is very meticulous about his craftsmanship and views his shoes as pieces of art. But I also have to agree with another commenter, they hurt like crazy and it's NOT worth the money to kill your feet! EDIT: I'm hearing the quality has gone down on these shoes too!
@sushiluvrluvzme6 жыл бұрын
Tiara Letrice almost everything in quality for brand name stuff are going down. There are three stores I shopped at for awhile. Comparing to the first time I bought from there (I still have the items from 10 years ago) and compared to now the quality is half to 70% of what it used to be and cost 25-40% more excluding tax. Even styles now and days aren’t that great because it tends to be repetitive and nothing unique and new. I say, get things on sale/ clearance because they’re usually half or 25% of the price for half the quality. That’s when it might be worth it depending on how you view it.

Gucci, Prada, Hermes, Louis Vuitton are even more expensive. I do understand his feelings because I like Louboutin's designs too. But the truth is, those shoes only became very expensive because MOST OF US LOVE THE STATUS. We paid partly for the shoes, & the rest is FOR THE PRIDE. As businessmen, why shouldn't they take advantage of our behaviour? Of course they would. IT'S BUSINESS

Exactly this. ^^^ I *could* drop a thou on a red souled monstrosity, but why should I? They're notoriously uncomfortable and cause blisters. Which to a mature, relatively sane person would mean they're pointless to buy. But if Louboutin's market is aimed at the low self-esteem teenage mentality of "I'll wear the craziest shoes I can find and screw the blisters", it just tells me what I need to know about the brand overall. When/if I do decide a pair of stompers is worth a grand of my labor and love, they'll be something I can wear the heck out of without concern I'll destroy my feet.

Except saying that it's a "5 day process" isn't transparent, either. Yes, the various stages of the production of these are designed to be completed in the span of 5 days, but it's more like "the worker will simultaneously make a couple dozens of shoes (at least)" in that period of time, and not "the worker only works on a single pair of shoes for 5 days". Otherwise their cost would begin in the thousands.

The shoes themselves arent worth anywhere near the pricetag, its the same as all fashion brands, you are paying for the brand, not the product itself. The only reason they sell is because of shallow and vain people who feel the need to spend such outrageous amounts of money simply to show them off. High heel shoes with red bottom soles where already worn back in the day by the king's of France. So he did not invent the concept.

@@johnmcmunn5698 So he basically took something that was already pretty common and trademarketed it like it was his own idea. To me that has the same energy as Nestle buying wells and privatizing water.

Yes, but the ability to have red soles was restricted to the highest nobility and therefore could not be used by anyone else. In these times of instant information, to have a brand that is instantly recognizable by nearly everyone is sheer genius.
@cathryncampbell85553 жыл бұрын
Louis XIV -- the 'Sun King -- started the trend. He was physically short, so he wanted higher heels. Plus, the red colour for the bottoms of the shoes made the king really stand out. And Louis LOVED to be the centre of attention.

Not 1k expensive. Why do other brands offer leather shoes at $100 or at most $500? They last longer and are even more comfortable than a Louboutin. Once the sole is scratched up enough they need replacing..for the SOLES the part that touches the ground so they naturally wear down first. They're so expensive because they're worldy recognized as a status symbol like you buying a diamond rig the size of a walnut. You dont have to get it,you dont need it but it shows people you can afford it

they are expensive to make a difference between the low/middle class people to the high class people, just like any other luxury brand. It wouldnt be a luxury brand anymore if it was cheap (and not special if simply anyone would be able to buy them), it would be a mall brand or a fast fashion brand. Those guys are the real bandits, but many people dont know and dont understand about the fashion industry. Also, such luxury brands are great, if you want an expensive watch, expensive car or expensive shoes to gift to yourself or others for graduation or doing something significant in your life, i think most people would buy something expensive cause they worked hard to get it.

Short answer: Profit margins. Also: Louboutin was far from the first one to have red soles on high heels. Charles Jourdan did it in the 70s.

I love high heels shoes and wear them a lot (for my work). For me, the comfort and support are my highest priority. Either it's 3000 dollars or just 10 dollars if they are not comfortable and give you sorefeet/blisters/pain, they are not worth your dime. For the brand name shoes, for me only, they are just the shoes, nothing to fancy about. I totally don't understand the worship over the big brand names, really.

I love to dabble in my art…and I’m a sucker for a beautiful shoe that fits and wears well…but I would never pay that much for shoes. A coat? Perhaps 🤔, but that’s still asking a lot. The most I’ve ever spent was $75 on a pair of sandals 25 years ago for my college graduation and they are still in style and comfortable today.

This is a false story about the red sole origin. Originally the red sole was a design distinct to Cesare Paciotti- a significantly better shoe designer with a lot less hype. Because the Paciotti brand prides itself on being a private, old fashioned, Italian family brand who only makes a few pairs in each size and doesn't mass produce, they passed up the chance to expand the way Louboutin has in the last 10-15 years and allowed Louboutin to buy and trademark the red sole when he approached them about using their design for his shoes. And funny enough Paciotti still make shoes (not all but some) with red soles. They've kept their original red and allowed Louboutin to trademark a version of their signature and mass produce with a variation of their red that we all now know as the Louboutin red.
