then you must be young enough that you haven't found anything yet. or you have something even now but you don't consider it worth noting to yourself because it doesn't seem like a skill or useful in any way. we're usually hard on ourselves and don't consider our characteristics unique until someone else tells us. But if we're socially awkward and prefer to be introverts, it kind of makes it hard to be in situations where others are around you enough to praise your unique skills and perspectives. since we're usually avoiding humans. I guess sometimes maybe they ARE kinda useless to be around... sometimes... for like a few minutes... kbye

Let me save you 2 minutes of your life by summing it up. The video is basically saying that if you're awkward, it's probably because you're really good at something, and that's good! It also means that you're more likely persevere and succeed because being awkward tends to come hand in hand with the ability to focus really well on what you're doing, DESPITE going through tough times.

I'm moderately socially awkward and I love history, computers and a few other things but I absolutely hate some other subjects. I also feel that I get over things very quickly whether someone close to me dies or I lose something that I worked hard to get or achieve. I know that might seem cold but after a while I stop thinking about it and I block it out and get on with my life.

This is totally me.. at least the intense focus and obsession. I was always kind of awkward and things only got worse when I switched to online school to devote more time to the things I love. I "master" everything I am passionate about and am obsessed with it to the point where I will become nothing but the best. I stopped being socially awkward when I made that obsession being good at networking and being socially adept but the main thing is that whether it is school, a sport, fitness, even a video game, if I love it I am damn good at it.

n00bie I used to be exactly like that back in 2015. What I would recommend you to change is to find something worth your time (in the long term). A simple goal or just exploring new ideas might help you. You might feel discouraged by it at first but in 1-2 years you can change a lot c: and trust me, being really shy/ introverted can hurt you if you're looking for a job or even trying to explore something new. I have this phenomenon where I have a imaginary life...like a alternate possibility of my life and have stories and journey of it in my mind. This has nothing to do with reality, but the problem is I think more about this life than reality which I actually am living in, Has this ever happened to anybody? Likr this is the first time this has come out of my mind to something physical....I have never talked anyone about this infact this is first time i am expressing it through something...

I've been awkward since my sophomore year of hs and he made me realize that from that time to now everything that I've ever been interested in I've obsessed over it and spent a long time trying to master whatever it was. Sounds like me. I dont trust humans and am very awkward in groups, but very profound in a 1 on 1 situation. I am a genius in a few categories but a moron in others. I dont like the schooling system not because it sets standards, yet that it is more of a belief that is being imposed on the masses. If it focused on each individuals personal traits it would make more sense than wasting 12 years of our lives to end up with no direct focus. It seems social skills would be something that would give students a fighting chance, yet society doesnt put much behind fields of psychology or say drama class, etc. Its more likely that they dont want us to have a fair chance because its a threat to their chance to excel. So mental dissorders such as extreme narcissistic behavior is awarded in this dog eat dog world.

I've had social anxiety pretty much my whole life, and it got really bad when I was in highschool. I'm 20 years old now but it still controls my life more than I want it to. I'm also a music producer and I feel like this video has a valid point, I work extremely hard at my craft and even when I started producing people said my music was no that good, but I always wanted to keep improving until I make it as a big time producer. Not saying that you have to be "Awkward" to work hard, but this guy does have a point about the persistence that we have. I've been selling beats to artists now and looking to make some noise at the beat making contest held in Toronto. hope you guys hear my music on the radio some day lol ✌

Definitely not a Cat Everybody is awkward, or weird, really there's no 'normal' person. You could say I am pretty normal, however If you look close enough you'd find I am really weird. But there's no excuse, you need social skills to have a great life, obviously If you want to have friends or a girlfriend, If you are not interested in living in society that's cool, you need to find a lonely place to live, It's cool If you seriously want it, however If you do it because you suck when talking to people, there's no excuse, fix it.
@definitelynotacat2371
@definitelynotacat2371 7 жыл бұрын
"you need social skills to have a great life" That might be true for your standards, but it's not the case for everyone, even for people wanting to live in society (and I keep using Elon Musk's example to express it). What I meant was that the social skills of Elon Musk are pretty lame, and he obviously didn't fix it though look at how succesful he is, and without talking about excuses, maybe it's not working on that aspect of him (awkwardness) and only focusing on what really mattered to him that made him who he is. If you dream about having a sucessful social life (like most people), you can't complain about how awkward you are as social skills, like most things, can be acquired, so on that point we agree, but lacking social skills won't always suck, and having them isn't what makes a life great. Another example is how George Lucas was incredibly awkward, even while shooting Star Wars.

Personally, I feel that being socially awkward also means having more free time alone, which means more time to study and focus on a particular/passionate solo activity and *because* we lack the social life to distract us--it eventually leads to success, probably. In that regard, it's good to be "socially awkward." I've already come to terms with my personality traits being the socially awkward introvert that I am--now when the success thing kicks in....

he just described what I am going through, I had my first date ever with a girl.. I never saw her.. never met her before the day I dated her.. we just texted through the phone.. and I felt like I ruined everything on the day I met her.. I made it extremely awkward and antisocial.. I felt really bad and sad after that cuz I wasn't able to meet her expectations.. I don't like being with people a lot or to have mini chats.. but when it comes to the things I am nerd at.. I am full of it.. I am trying to study myself really hard.. this guy was true about what he said despite one thing.. we should mind the fact that this causes many awkward people to have depression or not believe in themselves as they are taught to perceive that there is something wrong in them.. "anxiety can lead to depression" I wasn't this much socially awkward when I was 15 or 16.. I was the opposite of that cuz I was always interesting to everyone.. most of the time depression is not a disorder!! its a condition.. yes its hard to change.. most of the psychological therapists "at least of those that ik" are ignorant and stupid.. and they just cause people with depression to be more depressed as they believe that that's who they are!! most people don't understand that "fun and life is subjective!!"

This is somewhat right. Many geniuses tend to be socially awkward or people with special natural talents and interests; however, not everyone who is socially awkward are geniuses because they found some other topic or talent that doesn't create genius such as playing video games where very few people can actually make loads of money off that. Someone like me (Interested in videography, and hardware) does create success and so happened to be socially awkward. Had my first job at 16 in film.

In my opinion, interpersonal skills come from experience. No one is born as a good communicator and everyone would be socially awkward if they never met another human. I think the reason there is a correlation between social awkwardness and being very talented in a niche area is due to sacrificing time with other people vs spending time on a area of interest especially if that area doesn't require communication.

Socially awkward people are mostly introverts. It's because of thinking prowess. And you maybe right...socially awkward is being not exposed to social situations since birth. Even if I'm introvert, I'm taking responsibility and working out by keeping in touch through communications and learning to start conversation as well. One thing, introverts may speak few in personal but talks a lot in Facebook chats. People still get our point as long as it is crystal clear.

Being awkward just means that you have not had enough experience with social interactions. Our brains then tell us we're "bad" at socializing, so we avoid it even more, and instead put that energy into building other skills. We then think we have to get good at the other skill/skills to compensate for our social inadequacies, when we could've solved it all along by focusing on building our social skills.

stop practicing. Stop focusing on your own behaviour, and what you are saying and start focusing on others. Typically, the more you think about it beforehand, the worse you will act socially. When you focus on what others are saying they will eventually talk about things that you might have a story on. Also, share your opinions; people love to debate or agree with someone else, When you share an opinion, people are forced into justifying their opinion. This results in dialogue.
