@rodrigquezei4 жыл бұрын

Na ... She didn't get 300k, the valuation is actually just over 200k , cause the 100k is for 40% which goes to the valuation , the rest goes in as debt and didn't calculate as part of the valuation .. so she got negotiated hard, the value of the company is actually less then the cash she asked for ... that being said, it doesn't mean it's a bad choice cause she does need the help to get that scale and sometimes in business (specially your first) there is no choice but to pay for your expereince through equity

When you’re out because of the valuation right off the bat (i.e. Steve & Naomi), that is just a cover up for other reason(s). The valuation can always be negotiated and de-risked with less money put in by seeking to share the risk with the other investors or converting equity into debt (i.e. a loan). For example, look what Glen did at 6:20

I have a theory that they get them from underqualified, overexcitable "business mentors". The kind that charge thousands of dollars for seminars for business newbies. My reasoning is that they have this "reach for the stars" mindset that can actually be quite useful for someone starting out, to really take themselves seriously, but doesn't work at all when coming up with a sane valuation to pitch to a canny investor.
