Great video! As a DJ, busking will definitely be the way I use QLC+ the most. How would you change the duration box to have a BPM input instead of a time input? That would be a much easier input parameter for me to use!

Mr Richards. Thank you so much for all of your sharing. It really made the transition to this program very easy. I have learned so much watching your tutorials. I do have a question about accessing speed of sequences when busking. Is there a way to program a "speed dial" control option when running sequences. Example, your sequence is a little slower than the song and you want to speed up or slow it down using a slider (either on the virtual desktop or using a midi controller). When working with live music, the band may not always use the tempo from the actual recording. That's always been my fear when contemplating using a cue list. My apologies if this has already been addressed somewhere, but I have not been able to figure it out through the program yet. Thank you for any insight you could share.

Great video Edward. I'm programming lights for a live band and would love one of those buttons to do a timed Fade to Black (rather than use a slider or the master slider on the left side of the Virtual Console. Our LT will be using a midi controller with buttons. Is this possible? Thanks!

Hey - Great video. I've recently got into lighting control for my mobile DJ business. I use QLC and I'm attempting to use virtual DJ alongside it. I've worked out how to get the bpm from virtual dj out into QLC, but I can't figure out how to set my duration to the timing of the BPM being received. Any ideas?

Hi Ed. Great tutorial. Can you tell me please. What is the 3d-looking program you have there to view the lights?
@edwardrichards7722 Жыл бұрын
The visualizer is Magic 3D Easy View You can download a working version of Magic 3 D Easy View Here: magic-3d-easyview.software.informer.com/download/ A couple of notes: When I was installing this my antivirus software flagged it for unknown files and I had to click “allow” in order for it to install. It looks like a false positive since I have had no virus issues when running the software. I would recommend restarting your computer after install. Make sure you have QLC+ set to output ArtNet Universe 1 with the address of your computer if you are running both programs on the same computer. For example mine is set to output Universe 1 ArtNet 10.0.0.25 Make sure you select ArtNet when starting Magic 3D EasyView and set up your universes. If it doesn’t work the first time, close the software and reboot the program. Some people are having trouble accessing the artnet. I found this info on the QLC+ Blog: I struggled quite some time on getting the Art-Net to work on ALL my computers. On some it did work right away, on other: no luck. What seemed to be the problem: multiple network interfaces! When I disabled my VMWare virtual network interfaces (and therefore had a system with just one network interface), I was able to use Art-Net in Magic 3D Easy View. So: make sure your computer has only one (enabled) network interface, and you should be able to use Art-Net. I would make sure that you uninstall the current version of the program before installing this version. The program will say DEMO but most features will function without limits. The Full version of the program is no longer available. Ed Richards

NOTE: Magic 3D Easy View is an older program that is no longer under development. You will find versions of it on the web that do not work. Hello Edward, thanks for your video! I would like to ask if you could answer some of my questions regarding QLC+ programming. I have about 13 minutes long audio mix with music that I need to create a dmx light show for. Its just 4 DMX 6 channel lights. Somehow I am able to create it manually, but I am especially curious about starting the show with audio with tapping button in the virtual console or create a "intro" button which will play audio in loop etc. The music mix will change overtime (also the dmx show) but first I need to create some kind of template which I will use. :-)
@edwardrichards7722 Жыл бұрын
If you are going to run the show manually do this: Put a button with a in in a normal frame to fire your audio cue. Put your buttons to control your lighting scenes in a solo frame. I will do a video after the holidays to show you what I mean. If you are trying to synchronize an audio cue with a lighting sequence then I recommend using show control. I can also do a video of this after the holidays. Meanwhile look at these videos which I made. Looks great! Perhaps a simple question, but how did you link the duration and time controls to the specific scenes..?
@edwardrichards77222 жыл бұрын
Great question Double click on the speed dial widget which you have added to your virtual console Select the “functions” tab and then click on the green [+] icon to add functions which you want to control with the speed dial After you have added a function to the list, double click on the columns labeled “fade in factor”, “fade out factor” and “duration factor” to change the values Change the fade in settings to “not sent” and change the duration factor to “1” That's it !! Quick Tip!! Take a look under the 'appearance tab” where you can set what parts of the speed dial are displayed Also under the “presets” tab you can add presets like I did in the video Finally, you can download a copy of this QLC+ setup on my website: comutinytech.com/TheaterTech/Tutorials.htm Look under QLC+ and you will see layout for busking

i want a midi foot controller for my scenes but also have my drum module sending midi signals to flash lights but i cant input multiple midi, why is this? any idea?
@edwardrichards77222 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan I think I have an answer for you. First make sure that you have both midi devices plugged in and and recognized by your computer. Then start up QLC+. In the inputs and outputs tab you should see both midi devices. Select Universe 1 by clicking on it and select one of your midi devices as the input. Then select Universe 2 and install your other midi device as the input. Now go to your virtual console and double click on a button. Under External Input click on [choose] and you should see both of your midi devices indicated. Choose one and click on [OK]. Now click on [AutoDetect] and send a signal from your midi device. It should register and you are set to go.

How much would you charge for some phone or Zoom consulting? I’m in a serious bind and need to get a production designed by Jan 21. I’ve previously only used DMXIS which I longer have access to so I am making the leap to QLC+
@edwardrichards77222 жыл бұрын
Hi Claudia First of all - No Charge. I am a retired teacher and I enjoy just helping out other theater tech people. The whole lighting thing is kind of a hobby for me and keeps me out of trouble. Second I would be more than happy to design the virtual console for you so that you can then just get on to programming your show. Here is what I would need: Give me a list of what lights I should be patching. Include the make/model of each fixture and the mode you will be using if the fixture has multiple modes. Fox Example some RGB wash lights can run in 4 channel mode or 8 channel mode. Give me a position for the lights in relation to the stage. For example FOH pipe has 4 generic dimmer lights and four RGB washes and 2 moving lights. Finally tell me what kind of show you are doing: Is it a theater production where you will be running cues? Or is it a rock concert where you are going to be Busking? That way I will know what kind of design I need to do in the virtual console. Please email the info to me at ctltech2@outlook.com Regards Ed Richards
@edwardrichards77222 жыл бұрын
Another Option If you already have everything patched and have a lot of the virtual console design done, you can send me the file and I will tweak it for you and send it back. Use my email: ctltech2@outlook.com If you have any custom fixtures you have created for your setup, send those also or else the software will tell me that it cannot find those fixture definitions. If you need some custom fixture definitions created, I can also do that for you. Just need the model and manufacturer so I can look up the manual on line or send me a photo of the manual showing the channel attributes.

@@edwardrichards7722 Hey Ed! So just to bring you up to speed - This is for my bands concert. What we need is the lights programmed around our backing tracks / click track so that way the lights are in sync with our performance and the backing track playback. We are a metal band but have a lot of electronic elements that we cannot recreate live so we use backing tracks for that and also because this allows our drummer to play to a metronome within the backing tracks and that keeps our timing perfect Previously, I used DMXIS inside of Logic X and programmed everything via MIDI. I’m hoping to achieve something similar How do you think I should proceed? If there is anything I need to send you what would that be? I am very green with this stuff so forgive me if I need to look these things up or if I get a little lost. The DMXIS system was so easy to use that I didn’t really learn much in the process because it took me next to no time to design the effects, assign them to a key and be off to the races. We are only using one light for this show. It is a Chauvet Pix-M USB and the unit I have is the Enttec DMX Pro USB. EDIT: I see you included your email so if you’d like me to instead contact you there I can do that. PS - Sorry for my silly username! It’s from a video game. The name is Sean!
@edwardrichards77222 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean Ok... I am going to design a virtual console interface for you that will make programming easier. I need to know what mode you are using for the light: 5 channel 6 channel 8 channel 10 channel 17 channel 32 channel 36 channel Then I will need an email where I can send the setup that I create. I would keep using logic to send midi cues to QLC+ to make the light changes. Two ways to go about this: You could use a cue list and then send a note on/off message to QLC+ to progress through the cues. Downside of this is if you get out of sync with your cue list then things will not match up. I recommend using buttons for each of your scenes. Then Logic can send note on/off messages to QLC+ to trigger the buttons. I will send you a video on KZbin to show you how to do this. (no manual reading !!!!) I can get this done quickly as soon as you tell me what mode so I know the channels. Am I also correct that you are only using 1 of these Chauvet Colorband Pix-M usb lights? Just making sure. Ed Richards
