Still not a fan of infi steel... 5160, 1095, 1055 are all are proven steels without the hype or price. I have a Schrade in 1095 paid 40.00 for it beat the shit out of it for years still going strong. If you want wall art 500-600 for a blade fine but when I want a blade to do forging digging roots and camp wood I need a tool that just works.....thanks Joe you rock

Same thought here. Heavily overpriced. Machete's will outchop it . And for 14 euro or something like that. Busse is more of a fetish thing. You pay for it, because you 'want' it. Not because it performs better.

Ash 2 is .22 thick. It’s both thinner and half the weight of the WTG Ares. Comes with a lifetime warranty. Easy to sharpen, stays sharp way longer than those other steels AND semi stainless. INFI isn’t for everyone but if you want the best of the best in terms of balanced across the board INFI is the best. Also it was $427 not $600 The Hellrazor can be had right now for $397

Busse knives are too high for what you get . If Busse wants $450.00 for a knife they need to make a better knife. Thanks for the video Joe X and this why your channel is important to people who are thinking about buying a knife that is that expensive . Keep the truth coming bro .

Any reputable knife producer should also provide a sheath. In the case of high end knives like Busse, it should be a state of the art, premium quality sheath. Busse claims not including a sheath leaves the customer free to choose their own. In fact, failure to provide a sheath transfers the trouble and expense to the customer.

There are sheaths that are offered with the knife if the customer so chooses to add them on. If they prefer to have something other than the one offered, they can skip it and keep the cost lower for themselves. So Busse does offer a sheath for these knives and has for awhile, it's just up to the customer if they want it or not.
@mantaray2239
@mantaray2239 7 ай бұрын
@@topfueljunkie100 Busse does not provide a sheath as part of the price of the knife. Instead, he has chosen to sell his brother Danny's sheaths, available at an extra price, on checkout. Danny The Bull sheaths are not necessarily the best available, either in workmanship or materials. When I've taken the easy way out and ordered a DTB sheath with the knife, quality has always been a problem. I've found they are often too large and retain the knife by no other means than gravity. In many instances, the knife rattles in the sheath and if turned upside down, it falls out. If Jerry provided a state-of-the-art, kydex or other high quality thermoplastic sheath with every knife and included it in the price, he would be living up to the standards of even many of the cheaper knife brands. When it comes to his brother's sheath company, nepotism has replaced integrity and commitment to quality has been abandoned.
@topfueljunkie100
@topfueljunkie100 7 ай бұрын
@@mantaray2239 All I was disagreeing with was your last sentence of your original comment where you said "failure to provide a sheath..." as I just wanted to clear it up for others who were unaware that this is not an accurate statement as Busse does in fact offer a sheath with the knife as you've now stated in your most recent comment here. I've got more than a few of those sheaths as well and found the fitment and retention of all of them to be great, especially with the Resiprene-C handles. Those aren't slipping out accidentally for anything! These are the smaller war dog handled SYKCO knives mostly but a few of the larger SYKCOs as well (7"-8" blades). Others with micarta or G10 handles, like the AFBM and SJTAC7 I have, both fit their respective sheaths well for me too. They don't fall out when turned upside down and take some shaking before they would fall out. It's a pouch style leather sheath so I wouldn't expect it to have Kydex like retention obviously. Kydex clearly has much better retention if it's designed well. I can't say I have any complaints on quality either. They're nicely done and of sufficient thickness to be durable. They're obviously simplistic in design being basic taco style leather pouches which rely on a friction fit of the handle, but they're not terribly expensive either, so one wouldn't and shouldn't expect a $80-$120 custom kydex or a custom $250 leather sheath as it's designed as a basic offering to get the job done without breaking the bank. I'm not saying your experience is inaccurate either, I fully believe you when you shared your experience with those same sheaths which was unsatisfactory . I'm merely sharing my experience too so others can see it's not all bad. They can make up their mind what to make of it. I'm sure we can go back on forth on the other parts of your comment, but in the end we'll probably not change our current opinions much. Nothing wrong with that as we're all entitled to our own opinions. I certainly won't fault you for feeling as you do. All I was really trying to say is that sheaths are in fact offered so no one is mistaken in thinking they aren't as your comment made it sound like. Finally, one could look at it in a positive light and say you are saving money by not being forced to buy a sheath you may not want or one could view it the other way around in a negative light and say that the sheath is an extra expense not included in the knife's price when one should have been included at no extra cost. Arguments could be made both ways. In the end though, it's subjective and kind of useless bickering back and forth because we don't know what kind of profit margins are in these knives nor do we know the processing costs or any of that so speculating whether a high quality sheath should be included in the purchase price of a knife or not is really kind of pointless because it's just that, pure speculation.

Bad ass knife. Love the shape and the thickness of the blade. I was waiting to see a destruction video on the INFI steel just to see how it holds up. I understand some of the comments about the price, and you can certainly get a lot more value out of less expensive knives in terms of the amount of use you can get out of them for the money. But these blades are almost custom. They're low production I think so they can't compete with factory blades made in large quantities out of cheaper steel. I would love to have one. This is exactly the kind of knife that I really admire. I wonder about the edge geometry for batoning though. I'm not certain but I think a Sabre grind, or even a Scandi might be best so it works as a wedge. I think this is a flat grind? So there might be a lot of resistance. From a value perspective, it seems to me that most bowie knives of this lower production run types are in this price range so it doesn't seem overly expensive for what it is. Although it's certainly out of my price range. I'd rather have two or three, or four, or five knives for the price of one. But that's just me with my budget today. I would certainly pay this kind of money for a knife if I wanted it and it was that high of a priority for me. It's too bad it broke, but that's just the thing with steels that are designed to also hold an edge. And I also wonder sometimes if some of these blades might have microfractures in them by the time you get to the steel pole. Even a small chip with a slight invisible crack might be enough to weaken the blade and cause a wholesale failure. It's hard to find a knife that's designed for everything. If you can find one that's as tough as this, but also holds an edge that's pretty amazing. I guess one of the things that you don't include in your tests is the cutting edge after cutting some tough material with it. It would be interesting to see that on some of these knives. Although I see a lot of reviews like that, and that seems to be what people focus on, lol. i.e., "how sharp it is out of the box, and can it cut paper after some light use" . Lol. None of which is important to me. Anyway, another great vid. And a blast to watch as usual. Oh, and here's a link to some cut resistant sleeves. I posted them in another video but it was an older video so you might not see them. You, of all people need something like this.. Schwer 2 Pairs 18 inch Arm Protection Sleeves, ANSI A5 Cut Resistant Sleeves with Thumbhole, Flame Resistant Welding Sleeves for Work, Kitchen, Farmers Sleeves for Gardening Arm Guards for Biting a.co/d/965VGt1 Stay safe.

Is this one of Busse's older ASH knives? I don't see it on their site. It seems the older knives were full height convex and not saber ground. I have a old BMW, I used it to split seasoned fire wood, never broke, never bent, and there were plenty of knots in it. I wonder if the saber grind just doesn't hold up like the convex does. The wife accidentally pounded it into the ceramic tile floor in front of the fireplace and chopped a stone in half. Blade had a flat spot that sharpened out easily.

@@user-zx5yd4cf3y yeah you're right. The normal ones back in the day were a weird asymmetrical edge. The blade was the same thickness all the way to the edge then, 1 side was convexed and the other side was V ground. It was a very odd grind, Most people would convex the V ground side, that's what I did with the BMW and another one, I can't remember the name of but it had the same blade shape as a kabar or Buck General, it was called HOSS or some shit lol

For general abuse, Aeb-l, Aus 8, 80crv2, 14c28n, 1095, if heat treated 55-57 hrc they take quite a abusing beating. There are more than mentioned. Put all comments down what are youre favourites? I used a Leuku knife in the woods, in military, 1.4116 the golden standard as s wood chopper and batoned with it intensly, extensively. Marttiini Lapland leuku 230 The edge took some damage from iced wood (minus - 25'Celsius) but it didnt break. Elmax and RWL-34 I prefer for their special cutting tasks. (solely wood carving and kitchen work) but not for anykind of abuse. They wont take much abuse.

I can always tell when the knife does good on the car it'll fail on the brick, and when they fail at the car they do good on the brick. Yes... There's exceptions that have done both well just mostly that's the theme I've noticed. I'm interested in how the different steels behave under different abuse.

I have no F****** clue what changed between the Anorexic Fusion Battle Mistress and the ASH2. This knife performed so much better you'd think it was a completely different company. I could speculate the Battle Mistress was too thin behind the edge but the convex grind here performed spectacularly well. It's entirely possible that the formula for INFI changes with each smelting run across the decades, but the Busse heat treat is supposed to work wonders on any carbon steel. All I can say for sure right now is I'm glad I got my Busse knives 10 years ago. Even with the more positive result on the ASH2, "Work Tough Gear" blades appear to be superior overall and at half the price: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ2baWuErtahf6s

Fuck yeah... Finally you can fuck some Busse blades.. Good end of the year. Have been waiting for this day. Clearly metal was somehow different in those two blades.. This one lasted what I expected first one was odd. Most likely that was not 100% what it should have been. I am one of those rare european people who have Busse. Most who talk shit from it don't even have any. If living in US I see why you get Busse but if you pay customs and other stuff not worth it. I think that before I even get my Busse blade and I still think that. But I like what I like and that time I have money to get what I like. Get what you like pay ones cry ones how it go... Was very dull when I get mine and not shopper. Shopper can be little more behind the edge more. It's all way's nice to get something what is made in own country maybe not that much if you live in China.. Support own country workers.. If you have money knifes are your hobby why not get something what you like.. Hobby's cost. I can see some Busse fanboys are not happy whit first one but I think smart ones will think something was off whit first one too. Send one or two pieces to Busse that they can look in to it then that dead knife will still live on.. That company is one of those rare ones what will be interested to look in to it and learn. Big ones give zero fucks small ones no money for it but some rare ones are interested to learn. I think Busse is one of those. But anyway some people takes this stuff just too serious... You really work hard I hope you can keep your interest up to do this shit still some years :) keep at it..

Nothing survives the iron rod! But Joe you seem to forget that a longer blade has way stronger impact on the rod than a 6 inch knife ... the handle issue you're right on spot and they fixed that problem on other models wich they have the fusion handle.. I believe the knife did great and a few busses I have are solid performers, however yes they are a little overpriced considering that you need to pay another 100 or something for a kydex sheath, but they are not 150$ knife for sure! Let's be realistic! These knives are semi custom.

@joex the wtg Ares was impressive I must say.. but it is shorter and wider and the Tom brown is also way shorter and very wide, imo 1095 is no way as tough as Infi, even newer infi. By the flexibility of the busse and the no chipping performance it gives the impression that is tougher. So I'm thinking that the geometry plays a role here, tou sacrifice some toughness for length... Anyway thanks for the video brother.. the wtg Ares is such a cool knife, you made me wanna buy one!😅 greetings from Greece!
