My adult son was looking for an RV and found what he wanted at Camping World. He asked me along when he went to look at it. He liked it and he was ready to buy. He and the salesperson went back and forth over the price until I had heard enough and suggested we leave. I was getting the same vibe you get from a shady car dealer, so I told him “watch, they’ll chase you down with all sorts of offers. Decline and walk away”. They did and he did. They called him later that evening with all sorts of deals, he suggested the sales manager call him with a bottom line. He did and my son put him on speaker so I could hear. My son twice said, “To clarify our agreement...” and repeated the agreed on price. He agreed, went to pick it up and asked me to meet him there. I was only a few minutes late and was surprised that they were already doing a new owner walk through. It seems they had told him to do that while they “finished the paperwork”. I figured they were trying to set the hook and suggested he sit down and do the paperwork before anything else. They then insisted that he had to shop insurance with Good Sam, even though he already had insurance and wasn’t interested. When they finally brought out the paperwork, the first thing he noticed was that the interest rate had shot up 5% overnight. He said that was a deal breaker and the manager “convinced the lender” to bring it back down and suggested he was doing my son a favor. His credit is flawless and his income is high, so no favor there. Then he got to the bottom line and the sales price was the “discounted” price displayed on the RV, over $4k more than the agreed to price. The manager insisted that he would never have agreed to the price he had told my son, with his sister and I listening, and that he must have misunderstood. At that point I’d had enough of their shenanigans, said I had heard him repeat the price twice, and what my son did was up to him, but I was walking out. My son agreed and walked out. He thought he was done with them until he was buying a house a few months later. He had to explain 17 hits on his credit. When he explained it was Camping World and what had happened, the loan officer commented that wasn’t the first time he had heard of that happening. As an RV owner, I can say I will sleep in a tent before I would buy from them.

Thank You RV Odd Couple!! We just bought our first camper and thanks to you we are very happy with the buying, inspecting and leaving the dealership!! We are from Fl and bought the camper from Terry Town Travel Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan!! We watched all your videos and took many notes. When we finally started talking to dealers we were armed and ready for all the good, bad and ugly!! We decided, worked with dealer on a great price verified with others who had bought the same type and actual signed agreement with that price. We were a little worried as it came close to delivery time but, we remembered all your advise, and we had no issues, the dealer tried to add on supposed perks, warranties etc. we held our position and walked out with no price increase or other surprises!! Being newbies we were so glad to have found your videos and they helped us get up to speed pretty quick!!! We are starting to enjoy the RV life and we owe our beginnings to you all!!! Thank You so much!!!

This is so awesome. We were fortunate to get out of our deal with camping world. We ended up going with Matt from Matt’s rv reviews and General RV. It was an awesome experience. They gave us a really good price, didn’t pressure anything, fixed any issues with the rig before leaving and were upfront about everything. We highly recommend them

We just found your KZbin channel, right after we just ordered our new travel trailer. This video is great for warning on what to look for. So far, knock on wood, the small RV dealer we are dealing with seems very friendly and legit. $250 deposit and no credit paperwork until we are satisfied with the delivery of our trailer. Maybe in the future you can have a video on the honest dealers, and perhaps I will be able to recommend the dealer I’m working with, if nothing goes sideways! Keep up the good work, and thanks for the advice you give to us newbies!

Hey Guys, this is great info! I bought my Grand Design unit from Alpin Haus in Port Jervis, NY and they were great to deal with, I was going to put 10% down and order a unit, they gave me a price in writing and agreed to it, I get a call a week later and they said that the unit I wanted just came in and I could hold it for a $1000.00 deposit and if I don't like it it was refundable. I went to see it and loved it so we did the deal, the pricing they then quoted me was a $1000.00 higher than the first quote, when I brought it to their attention that the first quote was lower, they matched it and we did the deal! They were honest to deal with!!

Great video guys, I've been through something similar with Camping World when they had a location in Spring (North Houston) saw a price online and they had it in stock. I took a screen shot of it before I went to see it and they tried to raise the price then acted like they were doing me a favor and "would meet in the middle". After unfortunately making a small disturbance in the showroom and insuring everyone there heard about the bait and switch i left and saw a few months later that branch closed for what I'm sure was more issues like mine.

I am so glad that you put this video out. It’s amazing how many people are being taken advantage of. RV purchasing is a sticky deal. I’ve purchased 3 now but I’ve never ordered one. It’s still a scary deal either way. As for warranty issues. My last dealer just stopped calling me back when I needed service. I was 30 days to expire and they tried to get out of warranty work for replacing a window by saying WD40 would fix it. They sprayed it and sent me on my way. Not till the window started to separate and I sent them photos did they finally order me one. Very upsetting. Thumbs up to you guys!!!

Great video guys, thanks for the info. My wife and me are planning on buying an RV next year, 6 to 9 months. We are planning on getting the same trailer that he did, RiverStone 39RBFL. I'm retiring in a couple of years, I'm a truck driver my route is Seattle to Salt Lake City every week pulling a 53ft trailer. So pulling a 40ft rv won't be a problem but we've never had a rv so we'll have to learn the rv'ing part. Planning on buying next year, selling our house and working from it for a year or so to learn then hit the road when I retire. We've checked with local dealers but the prices are higher than Couches RV Nation, we also like Terry Town. Thanks for the info Lavon

I am in negotiations with an RV dealer to purchase a rig. Talked to several dealers of the last couple of month and the deposit they wanted varied from $1000 to $500. All were willing to give it back for any reason up until I took delivery. The one I am communicating with now really wants me to put a deposit down saying it could be gone at any moment. I look at it this way if it is gone before I can secure financing then the good lord didn't want me to have it. I actually put a deposit down with another dealer, and was told that they really didn't want my trade because I have some issues getting to the store (they were willing to ship the new one to me, but was told to sell the other one through a private sale). Needless to say if they don't want my trade (I know I could get more from a private sale ) then they really don't want my business. I am not really sure I want the RV after all I have been hearing lately about over priced and poor quality because they rushed them out the door. Sorry about this being so long winded.

I remember my first time buying a car in 1985 Tampa Fl. I was desperate for transportation so I went to a Honda dealer ant told them I wanted that Honda Civic Hatchback for $250 per month no more than 5 years. They immediately accepted the deal without hesitation. I got my car, drove it as happy as a kid with a double scoop ice cream cone. Well, later I did the math.... I paid over $7K for a car that was new on sale for $7900 MSRP... I know this is about RV's, but the moral of the story, never buy when you really want the RV, when the deal sounds to good, when they keep you to long in the dealer, when the sales person keeps going back to the sales manager to many times, etc... but most important... when your wife tells you lets get out of here, you leave immediately. I am waiting for this COVID crap to move on and I will start to look for the next RV. I may call GPS for some advice before I head to the dealer. Great video guys!!!

Advice - DON'T buy new. Advice - be willing to walk away. Advice - Almost ALL RV dealerships are thieves. Lazydays is at the top of the list. Don't ever try and get any service there. Advice - know that if a salesperson's lips are moving they are lying. Nothing is legal until in writing by BOTH parties. Know what you are signing!!! Life is NOT fair. The sooner you realize that the sooner you'll stop expecting it to be.

Lack of Consumer Protection Laws for RV buyers is a problem (e.g. No Lemon Law, No RV Contract Laws, etc.) RVers are on their own. But communities like the RV OddSquad could pursue RV buyer protection legislation at least as good as car or home buyers by eliciting petitions from RVers and consolidating fact-based examples (naming RV Dealers & their employees). Why not ask someone like Steve Lehto to help out (at least in Michigan)? You guys are making a difference across the RV Industry. Expose the bad apples. I’m sure plenty are honest and trustworthy.

Some may say that it's conspiracy talk but I agree with John. These people do things on purpose to manipulate customers to manipulate the deal or to simply hurt a customer's credit out of spite. I had a similar experience with purchasing a house. After changing my mind about a certain mortgage company, they pulled 5 "hard pull" on my credit report in 1 day. That is still affecting my credit and will do so for another 2 years.
@Milesco

These things sound like blatant consumer fraud. I would advise anyone who gets jerked around like this to notify their district attorney or their state attorney general. District attorneys and state attorneys general typically can't help individual consumers, but if they get enough complaints, they will investigate and file civil lawsuits on behalf of the public and even file criminal charges, if warranted.

We paid $60,000 for a rig that currently sells for $300,000 plus. most people in the parks are shocked it's 15 years old they usually guess 5 years old. i just mention this as another option, it has served us well for 30 years of rv'ing

I wanted to just live in it and stay in Texas most of the time but occasionally go to Illinois like in summers. I work for wal????mart and dont want to quit yet. Just transfer back and forth. When 67 I'll retire and travel. 1. Is this a good idea? 2. Should I be getting memberships now or wait til i hit the road full time. 3. 1995 with 450000 miles i think is good should before retirement trade it off or keep it. My credit isnt good at all. 4. Should I start getting stuff to make life easier while out on the road like tools and stuff or wait. I actually have more question but dont want to write a book on here...lol. I'd appreciate some feed back. I've almost watched all of your videos.

t Just watched your video you dropped today. 2 years ago we went to a show and put money down on a small class A. Two days later we canceled. Money returned fully. This March we went to the same RV dealer and did get a 23 inch trailor. The sales person I knew for over 55 yeagregusrs. The other staff was very helpful. They answered all our phone calls and visits. The three things that went wrong they fixed very fast. Their name is Horns RV in Sheboygan Wisconsin. If we ever wanted a different one we would go to them. Paulette

We special ordered a 2021 Grand Design Reflection from Pontiac RV. In Illinois. It's a local dealer. This was the price everyone else wanted for the 2020 on their lot. They gave us a great deal, a little over 30% off. When it came they were awesome, no price increase despite several new upgrades like the instant on water heater and an app to control the lights, slides and awnings. It was three weeks late because of the AC shortage. We had great service! They did offer a warranty which I have up to a year to decide on. So there's are good dealers out there. It's not a mega dealer but large for our area. The owner is pretty honest. If you look at a used RV you find it in the condition it came in. They don't clean them up. He wants you to know how it was treated. One had all the leaves in it from when the slides were pulled in without being cleaned off. This is the third RV we bought there with never any problem. I don't work for them just passing on a good experience.

I like this idea of a series. If a coach is on the lot already how can the price raise on current inventory. If your ordering one from the factory, maybe but I doubt it they have prices set already for the spring delivery. It’s the dealer that sets the retail. I would stay away from the mega dealers. I have a family owned place I like. Thompson RV Pendleton Oregon.

About credit being pulled by RV dealers - consider having a lock on your credit report. You can unlock it for 24 hours, the dealership can pull your credit score and then you lock it again.

Thanks. We have been looking for a 5 wheeler. We started looking at travel trailers toy hauler than mobile home pulling a trailer than toy hauler mobile now 5 wheels tow hauler. I had a experience with RV wholesalers. I back out of the deal. Thank goodness I did read before signing. What they told me and what was on their contract was different and some parts.

I wished I had seen this before buying my rig just so I knew what to look out for when dealing with the sales person. Fortunately, we bought from a great local dealer, North Gate RV in north Georgia, and they did us right. This is fantastic what you are doing for the RV community and I keep telling people about your channel. Keep it up and safe travels.

They seem to commit to a lower price knowing that before the papers are drawn they can spring the increase on the customer and if you back out, they will sell to the next guy in line. It is crooked. It is a used car lot tactic. I caught an error mark up when sitting in the finance office, (Pre Covid) February 2020, so I pulled out my cell phone and used the text message sent to me from the sales manager who wasn't onsite. Finance guy accepted my numbers. That would be very different now with the RV Industry shortage of units. Supply and demand is one thing. Baiting a buyer with a price then raising it after the agreement is a sin.

If I could tell anybody starting out is to rent a RV before buying. Take a vacation and see if you like it and also to see if it fits your needs, new or used. A pull behind (Travel Trailer) , 5th Wheel Class A, B, C and super C. . While you're deciding which one , start shopping around for your financial needs. Run your own credit report and make a cop to show. Tell them not to run your credit report. That way your credit score doesn't drop. I hope that you understand what it is I was trying to convey.

I bought a 2020 Airstream 23' Flying Cloud FC23CB in the Spring of 2020. Had visited the dealer a total of 3 times between their two trailer locations under the same ownership in Northern New England when I finally sealed the deal. At the time of the actual sale in March (before Covid19 hit with a bang) I told Mr. Salesman that I'm retired, I've bought many vehicles before and been in the auto repair & appraisal industry for 40 years and owned 3 travel trailers prior. So 'please let's not have you go into the big bosses office back and forth to supposedly get his approval'. You know that game and we're not going to play it. I'm willing to buy today at the right price so give me that number so we can finish the deal fairly. I know you're not giving these trailers away., you have to make a profit and I have to get a good deal. I Got the agreed price and the gen. mgr. signed 'Paid in full'. When I said Airstream, I know that you know these units are not cheap., and better said: They are way over priced. I was not aware however of the 'sneaky price increase' tomfoolery that you identified in your recent video, which I'm not shocked to hear about. I've viewed several of your earlier videos with anticipation for each new one you put out. You tell it like it is and have offered good helpful advice so I thank you for being at the forefront in that department.

Overall good information. Not sure though understanding how a price difference can occur. Maybe it is done differently in the US, any unit I have purchased in Canada, the sales contract is final. Maybe if special ordered it is the issue, however still would not make sense as the contract would have to be done for the order. This should then be binding between the parties. Safe travels!

I go back-and-forth between regretting buying in February and patting myself on the back - not for my foresightedness, but for our good luck. We had a choice of a gazillion class Bs in the lot And they were all considerably discounted. Our 2020.5 Travato G, listed for something like $117,000, was $85,000 at the dealership. We didn't even try to negotiate below that. And that came with quite a few extras like roof rack, ladder (list $600), bike rack (list $1000), roll up side and back screens.. However, curse that we have not been able to go anywhere -, and the 2021s have come out with improvements that we would like to have. While we sat on our new, discounted purchase, we were losing a model year and upgrades. I know when his offer to extend our warranty or anything like that. Believe me, I have asked. But OTOH, we bought two weeks before lockdown, and we don't have all of these ripoff pitfalls to navigate..And now we're ready to go somewhere finally. Lockdown is getting lifted, it's feeling a little safer to go places. And the CA heat and smoke are dissipating. Life is a crapshoot, folks....

Thank you for doing this busted series. From what I have seen from your channel so far between dealer crap to Covid19 to you couldn't find a place to camp even if you wanted to, I had just thrown up my hands and said forget it. And all I was looking for was a Aliner Ascape st to use with my photography business. Knowing now that you have located the angel Gigi I am willing to once again possibly pursue my dream of shooting at dawn where I need to be not 90 minutes away at some hotel somewhere. Now its more about being safe. Thank you for doing this.

I am NOT in the RV Business, but I am in the Manufactured Home Business. We have had HUGE lumber price increases following the initial plandemic cluster. So there were definitely price increases that our retailers had to pass along to the consumer. The profit percentages just don't make it worth it eat those increases. They should not be doing that if the RV is already sitting on their lot.

Camping World made us mad we drove to a smaller dealer locally owned . We found what we wanted they quoted a price. It was the same upon closing. Fixed all the minor things we found upon inspection and replaced a water pump for free with in 2 weeks of sitting in my driveway. We bought used and had no warranty . They didn't have to but they did. They earned my respect and will buy from them next time too. Pharr RV in Lubbock Texas. Better buy Pharr.

It's a shame that consumers have to put up with this type of sales behavior. Our experience was great when buying our last RV. None of this back and forth nonsense. Highly recommend WANA RV in Shipshewana, Indiana. They quoted an online price for a RV that we special ordered and stood behind the deal six weeks later when the trailer was delivered. Their price was lower than many other dealers and since we were out of state, they provided good information for transporting our RV to Texas.

I was very luck when I bought mine. I live in Lancaster, CA, but I found my 5th wheel in Tucson, AZ, at Lazydays there. My wife and I looked at this very same RV in June when we passed by and they wanted 56K for it. They weren't willing to negotiate either. We went home. In September, we were contacted by the Internet sales guy and he said simply, take a look at our inventory online, we have a lot of great RVs at low prices. I got on and found the exact same 5th wheel we had looked at priced at 41.5K. I had been looking at a bunch of them and saw the same model here in CA for $48K. I told the local dealer the price I found and he couldn't match it. He actually told me "Good luck getting it serviced, we won't touch it if it wasn't bought here." I said screw it and drove to Arizona to pick up my new 5th wheel. Now, California screwed me on sales tax but they would have done that regardless. The DMV is a licensed criminal institution. But thanks for all the great information here. Great advice. Thanks again, Pat
