Busweek EP 4: Brisbane Transport MAN NG313 (Custom Coaches CB60 Evo 2)

Welcome to Day 4 of #Busweek!
This project is aimed at showcasing the different buses that are seen across Queensland, to help improve people's awareness about our state's most popular public transport mode.
Over the next five days, we will look at a Midi-bus, Full-size bus, Tag Axle bus, Articulated bus, and a Double-Deck bus to provide a quick overview of what vehicles you may expect on your commute!
Today's bus is the Artic, and we are onboard a MAN NG313, with a Custom Coaches CB60 Evo 2 body, operated by Brisbane Transport. These buses are between 12 and 13 years old, and are regulars on the Busway, frequently seen on the 66,111, 139, and 169.

The one we have in Perth was 1 of 3 trial buses that were ordered in 2018 the other 2 is a Scania L94UA with a CR228L body and an Iveco Citelis 18 with a CB60 Evo II body, all 3 are CNG powered, however a few years later, the Volvo contract came and they ordered 30 Volvo B12BLEA’s with CR228L body’s, they are diesel powered and have 3 doors on them.

The Voith in these is such a nice sound! I do prefer loud ZF’s more though but dang that Voith sound at 6:34 is awesome!

I live in the Central Coast of NSW and I get to hear Voith whines and retarder sounds during the day and night from Busways MAN 18.320s and their 19.320s outside my house. I'm very blessed. The ZF 18.310s have grown on me though I must confess.

Yes, it is a funny sound. When the air bleeds out of the system it sounds like an elephant to me!

They have quirks and personalities. The handbrake of the NG313, the groans and air releases from the Volvo B10Ms, the almost scream from a MAN SL200 as it fought its way up a hill.

Both articulated buses would mostly be in use during peak hours

I am 11 my most clear memory of being on that bus is like when I was 8 9 years old

I remember the artic buses they had before they got these dad drove them from time to time when he worked for BCC driving buses.

Nice! I remember catching the Metroliner articulated buses (B10M's). A couple of them are stil running as school buses at Port Stephens Coaches I believe.

One thing I miss from the butterbox and Fuji bananas is the seats in the turntable area. I can't remember if the metroliners had them too.

Metroliner artics definitely had the seats over the turntable - remember catching one when I had just moved house and they were in their final months of service. The Bonluck Artics at Brisbane Bus Lines also have seats there.

I rember I used to call these banana buses and also can u please do a live stream on Duffy buses or just a normal vid on there all bus runs [if possible(and the bus with 2 doors are so call)]

Yeah the banana bus name suits the bendys! With the Duffys bus, watch this space... I have one more bus from that trip you'll see in an upcoming video! Bundy is a little bit out of the way so I won't be going up there for a while sadly.

Absolute stupidity having no centre door. I thought BT's decision to have narrow centre exits on their rigids after years of well thought out wide centre door sets on their Leylands, Volvos and MANs on the long standing tram replacement body, was daft. At least they've seen the light and caught up with Sydney which at least led the way there.

I must admit, i've always preferred dual-leaf rear doors (and triple doors on articulated buses), as they speed up boarding and alighting. These MANs have always been a little polarising, and perhaps BT decided seating area mattered more than boarding times (assuming passengers aren't prepared to stand up). But I agree, 3 doors is much more versatile for articulated buses, particularly on busy routes like the 66 and 111.

@@TalkingPlanning It really disappoints me to see a city that has come such a long way take these retrograde steps with their buses. I thought they were trying to drag Brisbane out of the middle of last Century only to enact policies like this on their main PT mode. Brisbane should be ahead of the game.and innovative with their buses like they and Adelaide were in the 60s and 50s respectively. Now they both refuse to do so with the under valued dwell time.
