About the layout: - It is a temporary set-up I use to run my collection of old trains, nothing is screwed down. The rolling stock was made in the 1980s, the tooling is often older, so is the track system. - It is analogue, 16V AC - The locomotives are all analogue -> no motor regulation, no individual speed control - The speed is set centrally in a way that all trains can make the ramp to the elevated section. - Automation is done with relays, stopping is done by cutting power to isolated track sections - a small "Braking" effect before stopping sections is achieved with diodes, this is to avoid trains jumping signals Therefore: -> things are going (too) fast in places -> the stop/departure behaviour is not realistic by today's standards Normal behaviour with gear of this vintage... If I was interested in realism, I would collect something newer and would install scenery... The point here is to experience the models as one would have when they were new, using the functionality available at the time, with all the flaws it entails.

This is how a layout should sound! I grew up with Marklin trains made during the late 50s through the mid 70s. I always enjoyed the sound of the metal wheels and track.

I love this! Just like I remember from my childhood in the 1970s. I still like to run my trains non-prototypically fast, it is more fun that way.

I have seen a series of videos in which you talk about a new layout. Have you shelved those plans for now? I really enjoy watching your channel and I’m learning a lot about automation. My father and I have had Marklin trains for over 60 years and I’m gradually adding new rolling stock to it. It’s a wonderful practice. Thanks!

The plan has been on hold, but not shelved. Life has been getting in the way for the last year or so, and I don't want to start something if I cannot finish it... I am hoping to resume activties on that front soon...

In one video you mentioned that you uploaded your Gleisplan (layout of tracks) somewhere. Where can I find this site? I would like to print out your lovely Gleisplan to add it to my book "Gleisanlagen".

look on the main channel in the playlist "2021 layout", there should be a link in most video descriptions.

@@the3rdrail-extra Thank you so much! The jpg files on google drive worked for me. There is also a file that is 220 MB big which is ending '.psd' . What kind of file is this?
