The beauty of prearranged openings in computer chess is that we get to see what's possible in certain positions when played at the very highest level. This is like a game from the romantic era of chess, but played with 21st century knowledge 😊 Awesome video again Jozarov!👍

I love these Stockfish vs Leela games -- as they say in the UFC "styles make fights". I.e., the clash of styles makes for a very interesting game.

Stockfish is a more traditional style chess engine. Engines like Leela and Alphazero are more modern and use deep learning. Stockfish has many intelligent design choices but at the end, it works by calculating the next moves and counting the material at the very end of the calculations. Alphazero and Leela on the other hand, are more similar to human in terms of how they process chess. They play many games, billions of them, and then they start to understand certain positions and patterns in chess. That's why traditional engines are very bad at calculating openings, because it is rare to lose so much material in the opening unless one player blunders, and since traditional engines heavily rely on material for evaluating the game, they struggle in positions in which the material loss comes in 30+ moves, but the loss is quite obvious to a human. So I think it's safe not to trust Stockfish in openings, rather Alphazero and the proven opening theory.

I think you are very right! I used to program robotic mashies and I know, there are several ways of approaching and solving some problems. I know when you design some cheaper robots they have some limits in calculations and can do work like highly automated machines! In other hand, robots with huge memories or cloud network and few numbers of multitasking processors can easily do tasks that even surprise their designers! And what you pointed out, depend which approach you choose, you going to get certain results...Conlusion of my response to you: You cannot say which engine is better, only you could say which approach is better to solve some problems! I enjoy Stockfish games, because it is more human approach, Leela is more “brutal” and has far more far riching calculations than human can conprehend or do...

@@protoword10 well sure it doesn't fully rely on that, but it's a strong feature from what I've seen, 2 games of stockfish crushing leela (though I don't know how strong or weak is the CPU version of leela compared to the GPU one)

ABG ACG I got your opinion and I have nothing to say against it! Logic (algoritam) is simple, processing power is very important in this case! Depend what priority (aproach) to choose for game or the way your program want to play (what strategy). Sometime processing power doesn’t give you what you want if you are on wrong path of task..etc.

Stockfish can play whatever it wants, that does not make the Kings Gambit a good opening. Great analysis as always!

Yes on most levels you can play basically everything, but objectively in KG black gets an advantage if he plays correctly so KG is still not a good opening.

safe to say Alpha zero is going to easily lose to Stockfish or leela at their current playing strength. And Nnue sf versions are showing somewhere around 30 - 60 elo ahead of native stockfish in various tests. That leaves leela in the dust at least for now imo since it hasnt really improved significantly in last few months. Nnue combines the best of both AB and NN approaches in cpu machines which neither normal sf or leela has overcome. Interesting times ahead!

This new era of chess engines is a highly dangerous evolution of AIs. It is the era where these engines recognized the Romantic style of play and starting to develop them extensively. Notice that even Stockfish who usually refuting them is starting to recognize the style. In fact, these chess engines are the ones developing the style that mostly forgotten two centuries ago. In the future, we might see that these Romantic styles variations such as Kings Gambit, Jerome Gambit, Nakhmanson Gambit, Wings Gambit, Danish Gambit, and unsounded variations. will be a super high-rated opening. We might see that the next generation of grandmasters will finally break away with the curse of Steinitz that infected the real excitement of a chess century ago. With these engines anchoring the new path of chess, grandmasters in the future will be like true gamblers and chess will be exciting like never before.
