I wish I could download this music and this cultural tradition directly into my soul because I feel that's where it belongs. But unfortunately it wasnt given to me at birth or as I was growing up and my grandfathers (b. 1900) Gaelic died with him. I weep as Im watching this and I vow that I will learn Gaelic starting now and learn to sing at least some of the songs.. Neil Mackay grandson of Neil Mackay, March 2024

This is wonderful! Do you happen to know the song she's singing as she weaves?

My seanair//grandpa at 17:40 Donald MacSween // Dolly Challum Dhoimhnaill (1932-2007) I’ve probably spelt that wrong! I was named after him and as a wee boy he was always singing in and out of the house and even tried to teach me Psalm tunes but when I was wee I had no interest and I got older. I haven’t a bad word to say about him. A darling! ❤️

An excellent documentary. My thxs to the OP. (We can ignore the audio agonies between 17:26 & 22:00. It only 4.5 mins of God-bothering pain 😒)

This is not, by any stretch of the imagination, the most beautiful recording of Hebridean psalm singing that I've ever heard. But it can be truly wonderful - and I say that not as a religious person (which I most definitely am not), but as a fan of a capella harmony singing.

oh the free church, so cognizent of God's judgement while knowing little of His grace and joy. An orgy of needless suffering.
